2. Start Learning Matlab Programming & Abacus software.
3. AUTOCAD is must & you have to learn this.
4. CREO is the best software for Part-Modeling (3D).
5. ANSYS -yes this software is famous among mechanical engineers.
I don't know much about pipeline designing.Try to find a client & innvolve yourself in some projects after learning this software. Simply learning this software & finding a good salary package job without experience is hard.

There are many good colleges in Punjab who provides lateral entry in B.Tech. But I would suggest you to choose either Lovely Professional University or CGC Landran Mohali. These two are good colleges and provide good placements.

First, the universities might require you to take the SAT exam. Here is al the detail on the SAT exam -

Lateral admissions are prerogative of concerned state govt. Normally table is published indicating which branches in diploma will make you eligible for which branch in engineering. Check for PI with your polytechnic where you completed your diploma & they will inform you immediately.
