First of all, you have to crack IMU-CET. Tolani is one of the best colleges for merchant navy, but for that, you have to crack IMU-CET first.

ECE graduates are eligible to seek admission to get trained as an ETO in Merchant Navy. Once you are ETO trained there will be no difference between EEE and ECE graduates.

Eligibility Criteria
1) The eligibility for joining merchant navy is finishing class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
2) Candidates have to be unmarried Indian citizens (male or female).
3) Normal vision is required but glasses up to plus or minus 2.5 may be allowed.
4) Admission is through an entrance followed by a screening test and a main written examination.
5) After clearing the test, there is an interview and a medical test.
6) You also need to complete a ship-training course prior to the employment. The course is generally short-term where the candidates are taught basic security concerns of voyaging.

There are numerous employment opportunities in this field. Candidates who have finished the basic course in merchant navy can easily get jobs through various consultants & placement agencies. Merchant navy fleet consist of cargo ships, tankers, bulk carriers, container ships, barge carrying ships, refrigerators ships, passenger ships as well as roll off/roll on ships. The possibility of finding employment in cargo ships is more as compared to the others.
Companies that run merchant ships need trained people who can maintain and operate the ships. Some of these companies are: Chevron and Mobil of USA, Wallem Ship Management of Ho

The Indian Maritime University, Chennai conducts all India online common entrance test known as Indian Maritime University Common Entrance Test for admission in B.Sc Nautical Science and B.Tech Marine Engineering.
