I completely agree with Megha Bhardwaj's reply. I would like to add that the term interest or passion at the age of 17 or 18 could even be a sort of infatuation. So while taking a career decision, do not check the interest level only as at this age, many students may have multiple interests and they may not be able to make the right choice. So, consulting a career guide would be a good option as the opportunities which are presently available and would be available after many years require careful consideration. There are lakhs of Indian students who have told me that their keen interest is to become a film maker. But instead of going to a film school they will be enquiring for courses in an animation college or arts and science college who will definitely not be able to make anyone a film maker. So, unless a student understands the risks involved in becoming a commercially established film maker, if he simply ventures into a course, then there are 100% chances that he may not even get a simple job after course completion and it would become pointless to blame anyone at that time. So, interest must be evaluated against opportunities. And interest should also be evaluated against the basic abilities / natural talents of a person. This would be a better method to derive at the career choice.
