Music production has infinite scope as media industry is growing rapidly, and so is the need of new music. Music production includes programming music in a DAW (Digital audio workstation) as for now maximum of the work is done in a DAW. I would say sound engineering is a better option as it is an extensive course and has better job opportunities than a DJ certificate course. Sound engineering is a challenging field, yet very rewarding. Sound Engineers develop a high quality recording of music, speech and sound effects in studios. They use technical instruments to produce sound for film, radio, television. The potential for growth is huge for a sound engineer. Unfortunately there are no institutes in Jamshedpur for sound engineering course. Although, you can look for colleges in Ranchi or Kolkata for better prospects. Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute, Kolkata is the best institute for the said course.

A Sound/Audio Engineer can work for about 5,000 INR a month (trainees) to 1,50,000 INR a month (those with 5 to 10 years of experience) depending on the complexity of his equipment and his job profile. You can also work as a freelancer in the field. There is an emerging, yet a very promising freelance market for Music Mixing and Mastering Engineers. But, a very high standard of service is expected from such freelancers. The pay is great. You would be able to earn surplus of 30,000 INR by just mixing and mastering a handful of projects.

Hi Rashmi, Sound recording and mixing is a good career in itself, irrespective of the gender. It is more about the passion for the particular field as it is more of a behind the scene job. I can't give you a statistic to support this but being in various recording, mixing and editing studios myself, I can vouch that there is good blend of both the genders in all the various streams channeling out of Mass Communication. So if you really want to pursue this, do go ahead without any such doubts. Hope this helps!
