The allocation of BDes seats at NIFT Mumbai is subject to rules of reservation set by the institute. As per NIFT's reservation policy, 22.5% of the seats are reserved for the admission of SC/ST category students to its BDes course. Out of which, 15% of seats are reserved for SC students and 7.5% are reserved for the admission of ST students.

Candidates seeking admission to the NIFT Mumbai BDes course must meet the course-specific eligibility requirements. As per the admission guidelines for 2025, students must have completed Class 12 from any recognised board to be eligible to apply. Other than this, a candidate's age must be less than 24 years as of 1st August of the year of admission.

To be eligible for admission to the Master of Design (M.Des) programme at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in Mumbai, you must have passed an undergraduate degree from a law-recognized institution in India, or have an undergraduate Diploma of at least three years from NIFT or NID. You must also be at most 23 years old as of October 1, 2023, but the upper age limit may be extended by five years for candidates of SC, ST, or differently abled. You must also have completed 10+2 or any equivalent examination from a recognised board.

The eligibility criteria for B.Des at NIFT Mumbai include:

1. *Age Limit*: General category candidates should be under 23 years old as of October 1 of the admission year. There's a relaxation of 5 years for reserved categories.

2. *Educational Qualifications*: You need to have passed the 10+2 level examination from a recognised board in India or any other country, or its equivalent. Those appearing for the qualifying exam are also eligible to apply.

3. *Qualifying Exam*: Candidates should have passed the 10+2 level exam with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate in the case of the general category and 45% for SC/ST/PwD candidates.

The admission process of NIFT Mumbai MDes includes appearing for the NIFT Entrance exam followed by the personal interview round. Candidates whose NIFT Entrance exam score meet the NIFT Mumbai MDes cutoff are invited for the interview round.
