NIT Rourkela is one of the most reputed colleges, not only in India but abroad too.
The minimum criteria to get admission, for general candidates to qualify for admissions to NITs/IIITs/GFTIs, they should have secured at least 75% marks in class 12th exam or be in the top 20 percentile in class 12th exam conducted by the respective boards.
For SC/ST candidates, the eligibility criteria is 65% marks in class 12th. The placement is also good for all the branches. Almost all students get placed in good companies. The students not only excel in studies but also in extra curricular activities also. There are various clubs where students participate and excel as well as develop their skills.
The placement as well as package of NIT Rourkela is good enough. The average package is around 6-7 LPA whereas the highest package reaches to 12-16 LPA. Various reputed companies like TCS, TRL, Wipro, Infosys, Deloitte, Dell, Microsoft, etc. come for placement and recruit many students. NIT Rourkela is ranked 15th by NIRF in 2018. It is a new branch at NIT Rourkela, as it has a deep scope for development and research, so it would grow more and more in the mean time. Moreover, it is something that you would enjoy studying, if you really have any interest in production and processing of Food and maintaining its quality.
More likely, this branch is all about food making, no it is way broader. We develop food, we develop machines to develop food, we develop machines to keep the food safe. So it has certain degree of mechanical engineering, certain degree of chemical engineering and a major part of Food Science and Engineering.
As there is growth and development in India with respect to Food and Beverage Processing, there has open up a gate for great research and job opportunities, as well, in the near future or I would say it has already started.
Looking at some stats about the placement records for the academic year '17-'18,it is doing well. some companies like Milk Mantra, IDMC, Tetra Pak, etc. Some of the non-core companies visiting the campus for placement are ZS Associates, TCS, EXL Services, Tredence, Affine Analytics, etc.
The highest package is 10 LPA and the average package is around 6-7 LPA.

The placement of the mechanical branch is quite good at NIT Rourkela. Core companies like Tata steel, Vedanta, Tata motors, Maruti - Suzuki, Mahindra & Mahindra and many more visit our campus every year and recruit meritorious students as Graduate engineer Trainees. Sometimes PSUs also come NIT Rourkela because it is one of the top NITs. Fortunately last year Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOCL) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) visited our campus. Average package of core company is more than 8 LPA.
Since core companies are limited in number and select few students only, so many other students have to go for analytics, consultancy and IT sectors. A number of students get placed in TCS,Mu Sigma,Infosys etc every year. As far as job is concerned, almost every sincere students of ME branch get placed on campus ,whatever be the companies. Package offered by these companies are not so high but satisfactory.
