NIT Eligibility

Admission to NITs and IITs is based on the performance of candidates in the Joint Entrance Examination JEE Main and Advanced respectively. To be eligible for JEE Main a candidate must have passed their class 12th or equivalent examination with Physics Mathematics, and Chemistry as compulsory subjects. Additionally, the candidate must have secured a minimum of 75% marks (65% for SC/ST) or be in the top 20 percentile of their respective board examination. For admission to IITs, candidates need to qualify JEE Advanced which is the second stage of the JEE exam. The eligibility criteria for JEE Advanced are different from JEE Main and include factors such as the age limit, number of attempts, and qualifying marks in JEE Main.

The eligibility criteria for admission to B.Tech programs in IITs, NITs, IIITs, and other government engineering colleges are as follows:
Qualification: You should have passed your 10+2 or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. Age Limit: You should be born on or after October 1, 1997, if you belong to the general category. There is a relaxation of five years for SC, ST, and PwD candidates. Minimum Marks: You should have secured a minimum of 75% marks in your class 12 board examination or be in the top 20 percentile of your board. For SC, ST, and PwD candidates, the minimum marks requirement is 65%. Entrance Exam: You need to appear for the JEE Main exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). A valid score in JEE Main is required to be eligible for admission to B.Tech programs in these institutes. Note that the eligibility criteria may vary slightly among different institutes and also based on the category you belong to. The National Testing Agency (NTA) relaxed the 75 per cent marks in class 12 as an eligibility criterion for admission to NITs, IIITs and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs) in which admission is done on the basis of Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) main scores. In an official notification issued late on Tuesday, the Testing Agency said that it is in receipt of numerous representations from the stakeholders regarding changing the criteria of 75 per cent marks in the Class 12 examination. The agencys official communique said, in view of these representations, it has decided to change the eligibility conditions for Admission to NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs participating through Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB). For the candidates who qualify for admission in the NITs, IIITs and such other CFTIs whose admissions are based on the JEE (Main) ranks, they should have secured at least 75 per cent marks in the Class 12 examination or be in the top 20 percentile in Class 12 examination conducted by respective Boards.

The attendance criteria for students vary from institute to institute, and it is generally decided by the institutes academic council or management. However, as per the guidelines of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), colleges and universities offering technical courses such as engineering, must have a minimum attendance requirement of 75% in each semester. Most of the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and National Institutes of Technology (NITs) also follow the AICTE guidelines and have a minimum attendance requirement of 75% for students. However, some institutes may have a relaxation of 5-10% attendance in exceptional cases with valid reasons such as medical issues, participation in extracurricular activities, etc. It is advisable to check with the respective IIT or NIT to know about their attendance policies and any relaxation provided in exceptional cases.

Absolutely, you have a good chance to get decent NIT with this marks. According to your marks. You can expect your category rank around 1000-1200. Which is enough for getting core as well as non core branches. You can get core branches like mechanical, electrical in some of top NITs like MNIT Allahabad, NITK and NITR. However, getting non core branch in above college is pretty difficult. Getting non core branches like CS IT is easier in some of good NITs like MNIT Jaipur, NIT KKR, NIT j, NIT Jalandhar, SVNIT and NIT Rajpur. Make sincere and wise decisions while deciding branch and college of your interest as you are going to carry your branch for the lifetime.
