Admission to NITs and IITs is based on the performance of candidates in the Joint Entrance Examination JEE Main and Advanced respectively. To be eligible for JEE Main a candidate must have passed their class 12th or equivalent examination with Physics Mathematics, and Chemistry as compulsory subjects. Additionally, the candidate must have secured a minimum of 75% marks (65% for SC/ST) or be in the top 20 percentile of their respective board examination. The eligibility criteria for admission to B.Tech programs in IITs, NITs, IIITs, and other government engineering colleges are as follows:

You need to score at least 60-70 in your category and 80% in boards for the same. 54 marks are not enough for getting into NIT, IIT and like institutions. You need to score at least 60-70 in your category and 80% in boards for the same.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) relaxed the 75 per cent marks in class 12 as an eligibility criterion for admission to NITs, IIITs and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs) in which admission is done on the basis of Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) main scores. Based on your All India Rank (AIR) and OBC Category Rank, you are likely eligible for admission in NITs for CSE and Mechanical Engineering. However, it is advisable to check the official website of the respective NITs to determine your eligibility.

General Category candidates need to score a minimum of 95+ percentile score to get into NITs. For reserved category candidates, an 80+ percentile score is enough to get into NITs.

Hello,
Absolutely, you have a good chance to get decent NIT with this marks. According to your marks. You can expect your category rank around 1000-1200. Which is enough for getting core as well as non core branches. You can get core branches like mechanical, electrical in some of top NITs like MNIT Allahabad, NITK and NITR. However, getting non core branch in above college is pretty difficult. Getting non core branches like CS IT is easier in some of good NITs like MNIT Jaipur, NIT KKR, NIT j, NIT Jalandhar, SVNIT and NIT Rajpur.
