National Institute of Technology, Sikkim is one among the ten newly sanctioned National Institutes of Technology by the Government of India under the 11th Five year Plan, 2009. NIT Sikkim started functioning in August, 2010. NIT Sikkim or NIT SKM) is a public engineering and research institution near the city of Ravangla in Sikkim, India.
NIT Sikkim is one of the 31 National Institutes of Technology in India and has been declared as an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India. It is an autonomous institute and functioning under the aegis of Ministry of Education, Government of India.

The placement cell at NIT Sikkim is considered fairly effective as it does has high placement rate above 80% where multi national companies comes to recruit the students and has 100% internship opportunities while this is effective, NIT Sikkims overall NIRF ranking is lower compared to other NIT's

No, According to all the information available at the official Website of NIT Sikkim, it offers several courses but it does not offer any such course like Bioinformatics.

The institute has released the 2023 placement rate for BTech. As per the latest placement brochure, 83.70% of BTech students were placed during the academic year 2022-23. Further, the BTech students received 100% internship opportunities in reputed organisations. The prominent recruiters of NIT Sikkim placements 2023 included Deloitte, Infosys, Oracle, Salesforce, etc.

NIT Sikkim admission process is entirely entrance-based. Candidates who obtain a valid score as per the course's requirements in the respective entrance exam will have to register and appear for the counselling process conducted by specific counselling bodies. NIT Sikkim does not offer direct admissions for any of its courses. Admission are purely entrance based followed by counselling process for seat allocations. Admission to the BTech and MTech programmes are based on scores in JEE Main and GATE respectively. For NIT Sikkim MSc admission, students have to clear IIT JAM and register for CCMN counselling. Similar to these UG and PG courses, PhD admission at NIT Sikkim is also entrance and interview-based.

NIT Sikkim offers four programmes i.e., BTech, MTech, MSc and PhD at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels. Admission to all of the aforementioned courses is entrance-based. In order to secure their seat at the institute, students must fulfil the eligibility and selection criteria for the desired programme. The institute accepts national-level entrance tests followed by counselling through the concerned authority for seat allotment.
