At a 20,000 AIR in JEE Main, you are in an excellent position to secure CSE or IT at NIT Durgapur via the Home State quota.

CSE vs. IT: The Verdict

  • CSE (Computer Science): Focuses on hardware-software integration and core algorithms. It is globally recognised and preferred for specialised research.

  • IT (Information Technology): Focuses on the practical application of software to solve business problems.

  • Placements: Both branches share 95% of the same opportunities. Tech giants like Google and Microsoft recruit from both equally. CSE has a slight edge for niche R&D roles.

Recommendation: Prioritize CSE at NIT Durgapur, but IT is an equally po

It depends on your goals. If you want to start working soon and gain practical skills, a Diploma is a good option. If you seek deeper knowledge, better career growth, and higher positions, a B.Tech degree is usually the better choice. At LPU, both options include industry exposure and EduRev-powered learning, so you will benefit either way. LPU offers Diploma programs in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Computer Science Engineering, focusing on hands-on training. While NITs have decades of "engineering-specific" reputation, the JNU brand is globally iconic. In terms of technical infrastructure, JNU's School of Engineering is newer, so it's still building its placement legacy compared to older NITs. However, because JNU is a top-ranked research institution (#2 in India), the quality of faculty and the focus on innovation are very high. If you plan to pursue an MS or MBA later, the JNU name on your resume carries significant weight both in India and abroad, often on par with top-tier institutes.
