Yes, international students are allowed to do part-time work while studying. Part-time work is a great way to help yourself in paying off your tuition fees. It is not cheap to live in the United States. The cost of living in the United States depends on the tier of the city you live in. Although you are in the United States on a study visa, international students are allowed to work for 20 hours per week on part-time jobs to cover their expenses. If you're willing to do practically everything, finding a part-time work in Columbia is rather simple. A maximum of 20 hours a week can be worked in restaurants, bars, shops, university unions, etc. You will receive the minimum wage, which is, I believe, 5 pounds per hour, although most occupations pay more than that. As soon as you arrive, obtain a driver's license and your national insurance number. Even if you don't work all 80 hours a month, you can still make at least $200–300 per month. Online or in-person individual instruction is another excellent alternative. Best of luck!
