Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology is a well-known private engineering university, and B.Tech admissions are mainly based on JEE Main scores through online counselling.
For popular branches like CSE and AI-related streams, the cutoff usually falls within a competitive JEE rank range, while other branches have relatively lower cutoffs.
The fee structure is on the higher side, roughly ₹3–4 Lacs per year, excluding hostel and mess charges.
In terms of placements, Thapar has a decent record, with good companies visiting the campus and average packages in the mid range, especially strong for top branches.

Honestly, Mechanical at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology is a solid but practical choice not a “dream” one.
You will get:
- Good campus, labs, exposure
- Decent peer group and opportunities
- Overall stable placements
But real talk:
- Core mechanical jobs are limited and not very high-paying
- Many students shift to IT/analytics later
- Your growth will depend a lot on your own skills, internships, projects
Simple take-
If your other options are similar or lower tier → it's worth it
If you're getting top NITs/IIITs or CS branches elsewhere → prefer thoseGo for it only if you're okay putting in extra effort or genuinely interested

Yeah, you've got a good chance 👍
With 92.55 percentile, TIET Patiala is definitely possible, especially for branches like ECE, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical.
For CSE/COE, it might be a bit tight in the main rounds, but spot rounds / later counselling can work out.
So don't rule it out—apply and stay in till the end.
