The RRB JE CBT 1 is the first stage of the examination, which is also known as Computer Based Test 1. CBT 1 is the first stage of the selection process. It is also a qualifying exam because the marks will not be included in the final merit list. The CBT 1 exam comprises the subjects of Mathematics, General Awareness, General Science and General Intelligence & Reasoning.

The difficulty level of the exam varies based on the candidates' preparation level and knowledge of the subject. The technical section can be challenging to the candidates.
