There are very few candidates who are doctorate in chemistry. Typically, these students can join any of the research labs of government of India. Some private companies in the chemical field too recruit for helping them in their business. One can join academia as a professor, etc.

A combination of science and mathematics can be an added advantage. The minimum educational requirement to become an Astrobiologist is a Bachelor's degree in any of the science subjects like space science, astronomy, chemistry, biology or other appropriate science subject from a recognised university.

Minimum 45% marks in B.Sc with botany or zoology and chemistry as one of the core subjects. Along with the same, merit basis/ Entrance test or interview.

Both the fields are good and have importance (as inter-related).
Considering job prospects I would say biotechnology comes first to bioinformatics:
Biotechnology is related to laboratory(both dry and wet lab) works which include from sample extraction, preparation and further processes and the work includes (biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, microbiology, immunology, etc.) whereas Bioinformatics is related to dry laboratory work where you use the biotechnology samples and analyse them using the software.
Both are inter related, and the process would be biotechnological work followed by bioinformatics and also many times certain s
