If you have decided to opt for Maths (Hons) just because you are passionate about mathematics which you study at 12th level, then my friend, I think you should think about it once more. This course is quite different from what students expect it to be. Generally, students get attracted towards Calculus which they study at school but in this course, differentiation, integration and almost all the subjects which you study at 12th level are rarely studied. Honours in mathematics at DU almost comprises of studying Pure Mathematics which involves the subjects like Analysis, Group theory etc. Which are generally unheard till class 12th. Pure Mathematics is very less about calculations and more about theory and proofs. Its less about cramming those formulas and more about understanding the stuff. If you are interested in having deep knowledge about mathematics, want to know the reasons behind all what you have studied till now and are ready to begin a new theoretical journey of mathematics, then this course is undoubtedly meant for you. Teachers at DU are excellent in their respective fields and you will be able to get very deep understanding about the subjects. One thing I can assure you, a mathematics student of DU is far better than a mathematics student of any other university since many subjects taught here are only taught at post graduation level in other universities. I will highly recommend you to at least once go through the syllabus of DU before enrolling your name for this course.

The true difference between B.Sc and B.Sc (Hons) lies in the university or the country that offers the degree. This is said because you will see that some countries such as England offer the title B.Sc (Hons) even for a general Science degree. Some countries do not. For example, in Australia to have the title of B.Sc (Hons), you have to study for four to five years, depending on your study stream. B.Sc stands for Bachelor of Science. B.Sc (Hons) stands for Bachelor of Science Honours. A B.Sc is generally considered an ordinary pass degree and B.Sc (Hons) is looked upon as an extraordinary degree. B.Sc (Hons) is supposed to have a heavier syllabus than B.Sc. Some countries offer the title Hons for a general B.Sc. That lasts for only three years. However, in some countries such as Scotland, to be eligible for a degree that has the title B.Sc. Hons, you should study for four years. A regular B.Sc. Degree takes three to four years for the candidate to complete whereas it takes four to five years to complete B.Sc. Hons. This is one of the main differences between the two courses. The time period meant for the completion of both the courses is almost the same but it differs in the case of a few countries. For example, in countries such as England and Wales, you can have a B.Sc. Hons degree within three years. That will be a B.Sc. General degree. Submission of a dissertation is not compulsory for a B.Sc. Degree. Dissertation depends on whether the degree is general or special. For B.Sc. Hons, you definitely have to submit a dissertation. These are the valid differences between B.Sc. And B.Sc. Hons. As with job opportunities honour's have more chances as compared to general.
