There are two profiles in the merchant navy, engineer and cadet, first, you need to decide which profile you want to go for. Under Cadet - you must clear IMUCET conducted by Indian Maritime Institute or JEE and do your B.Sc. Nautical Science or B.Sc. Marine Science
Under Engineering - You must clear IMUCET conducted by Indian Maritime Institute or JEE and do your B.Tech (Marine Engineering). You can also do B.Sc. Nautical Science or B.Sc. Marine Science. You must also secure at least 60% in 12th PCM. Medical fitness is also required. You must also meet Eye vision requirement, 6/6 for each eye for B.Sc. And up to plus or minus 2.5 for B.Tech. Un-aided vision should be 6/12 in both eyes minimum or 6/9 in the good eye and 6/12 in the other eye. No colour blindness is allowed.
