Unless the Institute of Hotel Management (IHM) offers a particular pathway or conversion course, a sociology honours graduate with a BE (Bachelor of Engineering) degree is probably not directly eligible for an M.Sc. (Master of Science) programme in Hotel Management or any related field.  A bachelor's degree in a related field, like hospitality and hotel administration, is required for the majority of IHM M.Sc. programs.

The most recent cutoff B.A. in Sociology at PSG College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore, will differ based on category and admission cycle.

For the academic year from 2024-25, the merit-based cutoff is usually on the higher side, generally falling within 85-90% range in terms of 10+2 for the general category, 80-85% for OBC, and 70-75% for SC/ST if the weightage is given to the Tamil Nadu Board or equivalent marks.

As of now, March 28, 2025, the cutoff for 2025-26 is still in the works, but it will most likely be towards the same trend depending upon the number of applicants and number of seats (50-60 seats).
