This is a grey area and I will advise you to contact UGC directly. As per news and updates, if a candidate has registered before 2009 there is no need to take the NET but there is no update on how far this has been implemented. The requirements also depend on your area of research, university recognition in India and so on. You may also contact some universities and create a personal rapport to understand the requirements and flexibility. Unfortunately, nothing much can be advised now. You may go through these which are just proposals.

SET Eligibility Criteria for appearing in SET 2018
Candidates must have passed class 12th or 10+2 with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one subject from Chemistry/ Biotechnology/ Biology/ Technical Vocational. In the qualifying examination (12th or 10+2), General category candidates must have secured minimum 45% aggregate marks, while reserved category candidates should have at least 40% marks. APSET 2018 eligibility criteria which aspirants need to fulfill in order to be eligible to appear for the entrance exam is as mentioned below:
Candidates should have secured minimum of 55% marks (without rounding off) in their Masters degree or equivalent exam from any university/college that is recognised by UGC.
