Riding the skill wave, AICTE ties up with TISS
Skill development and not just education is the buzzword these days. Government is trying its best to encourage skill development amongst youth. This year's budget also gives impetus to this goal.
To be the part of the Government's skill development initiative, All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) has inked a MoU with Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS). The main purpose of this MoU is to conduct studies on skill development and to develop content for other associated sectors. To fulfill the needs, AICTE and TISS have signed a MoU in the presence of HRD Minister Kapil Sibal.
As part of the MoU, TISS will conduct:
- Research into vocational education
- To develop teaching methodologies and pedagogy
- To give required training to trainers
- To develop methodology for skill assessment and skill accreditation
The role of the TISS is based on the consent of the National Vocational Education Curriculum Framework (NVEQF). AICTE chairman S S Mantha said that AICTE has agreed to support financially to the school of vocational education of TISS and it will invest up to Rs 10 crore over a period of three years. As part of the initiative, TISS will develop centers of excellence, one each for industry vertical, and to develop a standardized pedagogy for each trade in the vocational sphere. TISS has also proposed to develop a national vocational training university which will begin as a school of vocational education which will proffer a 2 year certificate program. On the successful completion, student will carry a title of Technician.
