Chandigarh University UP Empowered Academic Aspirations Through Scholarships Worth ₹50 Crore Under CUCET
Some events are routine. Some events are defining. The CU UP Scholars' Summit 2026 - Recognising Merit, Excellence & Achievement event, held across two days at the Chandigarh University Uttar Pradesh campus, was firmly the second kind.
More than 2,000 students from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand walked onto that campus not as applicants waiting for an opportunity, but as scholarship winners being honoured for earning one. That is a meaningful distinction. And CU UP made sure every student felt it.
How It All Began
Chandigarh University Uttar Pradesh's scholarships initiative, worth up to ₹50 crore for the 2026-27 academic session through CUCET (Chandigarh University Common Entrance Test), provides an opportunity to students to make their higher education easier. Top performers were awarded scholarships, with many of them going on to get up to 100 per cent of the scholarship. The summit was organised as a direct celebration of those results - a moment to acknowledge merit by name, in person, on a stage built for exactly that purpose.
On the first day alone, more than 1,000 engineering students were honoured by the Honourable Chief Guest, Shri Asim Arun, Ex-IPS, Minister of State (Independent Charge) - Department of Social Welfare & SC/ST Welfare, UP.
The People in the Room
The concluding day brought together a gathering that only a few campuses could assemble.
Shri Yogendra Upadhyay, Minister of Higher Education, Uttar Pradesh, attended the event as Chief Guest on day 2, along with Shri Satnam Singh Sandhu, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha and Chancellor, Chandigarh University, Prof. (Dr.) Vinith Kumar Nair (VC - CU UP), and Prof. (Dr.) T.P. Singh (PVC - CU UP) represented institutional leadership at the highest level.
The industry contingent was equally formidable. Mr. Aman Gupta (Co-founder of boAt and Founder of Off/Beat), Dr. Shailesh Kumar, (EVP and Chief Data Scientist, Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited), Ms. Aswathy Venugopal (Senior Director, Cognizant Technology Solutions), Mr. Arpit Trivedi (Senior Vice President, Hitachi Systems India Private Limited), Ms. Aparajita (Government Advisory on Climate Change & Sustainable Development and Public Policy at StartInUP), Ms. Radhika Pant (Group CHRO, Shyam Spectra Pvt. Ltd.), Mr. Hardeep Singh Bhamrah (AGM HR, HCL Technologies Ltd.), actor and singer Mr. Aparshakti Khurana and celebrated singer Ms. Asees Kaur, each of them arrived not to just interact but to motivate & guide them & they spoke directly about where these students are headed.
What the Industry Said
The sessions covered AI, digital infrastructure, and enterprise technology - but the underlying message was consistent across every speaker: a degree is the starting point, not the destination. Practical skills, real problem-solving, and the curiosity to keep learning are what carry a career forward. On the question of AI specifically, the direction was clear - sectors will look fundamentally different five years from now, and the students who start building relevant skills today will be the ones leading that change, not reacting to it.
Shri Yogendra Upadhyay Ji: On Innovation and National Purpose:
Minister Shri Yogendra Upadhyay Ji spoke with the clarity of someone who had seen the campus and was responding to what he found.
"This is not merely a university, but a remarkable institution dedicated to identifying talent, nurturing it and preparing young minds for nation building," he said. He highlighted student innovations on display - including a concept for generating electricity through footprints - as evidence that CU UP is operating well beyond the boundaries of conventional classroom instruction.
Connecting the university's vision to the National Education Policy (2020), he noted that ‘CU UP is genuinely executing what many institutions only promise. "Patriotism is not confined to protecting the country's borders; it also means contributing to national progress through knowledge, innovation and meaningful work," he added. He also spoke about the expanding role of Uttar Pradesh as a higher education destination - and the part CU UP is playing in driving that shift.
Shri Satnam Singh Sandhu Ji: On Scholarships and the Shape of Tomorrow
Chancellor Shri Satnam Singh Sandhu Ji spoke about CUCET as a mission, not an exam.
He said, "Our scholarship initiative has been launched to ensure that no deserving student is forced to compromise on his or her aspirations due to financial constraints," he said. The premise is simple but powerful - every parent wants their child to go further. That ambition deserves a real pathway & not just goodwill.
He also added that, ‘Gen Z students carry larger and more global ambitions than any generation before them. AI is not an abstract idea for them - it is already reshaping the landscape they are stepping into. "The coming years will witness technology becoming powerful enough to enable individuals to achieve what once required entire organisations," he noted. For CU UP - India's first AI-Augmented Multidisciplinary University - that is not a disruption to prepare for. It is a direction already being built into every programme.
Plenty of Success. Already at This Scale.
CU UP is one year old. And the CU UP Scholars' Summit 2026 is not the kind of event you expect from a campus in its first year, where 2000+ students were felicitated. But that is precisely the signal. For students from UP, Bihar, and Jharkhand - many of whom have never had access to an institution of this calibre - the summit was proof of something important. Merit is seen here. Financial background is not a barrier. The gap in the middle of ambition and opportunity is being closed, actively, by design.
The CU UP Scholars' Summit 2026 was a felicitation, a career conversation, a policy dialogue, and a cultural celebration - all at once. At its heart, it was a university keeping its promise to 2000+ students who had already kept theirs.
