HPU BA Eligibility & Highlights 2025
BA at Himachal Pradesh University is offered as a three-year programme at the UG level through the Department of Evening Studies. The BA programme is spread across six semesters. Besides, the university also offers three-year BA and BA (Hons) courses through various affiliated colleges. Apart from the regular BA course, HPU also offers the BA in distance education mode through the International Centre for Distance Education and Open Learning.
HPU BA admission is entirely merit-based. Candidates seeking admission to the BA programme offered at HPU are required to meet the minimum eligibility criteria of a passing grade in Class 12 examination conducted by HP Board (or in the case of Shastri, pass in Prak Shastri from Sanskrit Colleges affiliated to HPU) or an examination accepted as equivalent there to by the various bodies of the HP University to apply for BA in distance education mode.

The total seat intake for the BA programme across all the affiliated colleges of Himachal Pradesh University is 20,343. HPU BA seat reservation policy is as follows:
HPU reserves some seats for SC/ ST candidates of Himachal domicile. Below is the seat reservation criteria:

5% of the seats shall be reserved for outstanding sportsmen/ women (who have represented the University or State in Inter-University or Inter-State tournaments).
5% of the seats shall be reserved for candidates who have shown outstanding performance in cultural activities
