All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) is the second biggest engineering entrance exam in India, after IIT-JEE. Cracking the entrance exams offer a chance to students to get into more than 70 engineering colleges and institutes across India, including NITs. Since last year, AIEEE is being conducted in two formats - paper-based format and computer based format. The paper-based AIEEE 2012 was conducted on April 29, and about 11 lakh students appeared for the test from more than 1700 centers across India.
The question paper was quite similar to last year in terms of the difficulty level. The Physics paper was said to have more numericals while the Mathematics section demanded more calculations than last year. Trend watchers believe that those who score more than 50 per cent in the exam will be able to rank around 15,000 at an All-India level. Read more
No glitches were reported in the paper-based test paper.

However, the tribute to last AIEEE cannot be deemed ‘perfect'. A few centers like those located at Guntur, Warangal, and Tirupati did report lack of basic amenities like power supply and availability of space to accommodate the candidates.
This was the first time; CBSE conducted the paper-based AIEEE only in smaller cities to encourage the students from Tier 1 cities to take the online format of the exam. See details
From next year, AIEEE and IIT JEE will be replaced by Indian Science Engineering Eligibility Test (ISEET).
