BTEC curriculum is designed in a way that helps build self-confidence and leadership skills, says Vivek Narendra
Since early school days, I started learning about electrical wiring with my colleagues. I was weak in theoretical concepts. In school days, I decided to gain more and more practical knowledge. So, after completing ITI in Electronics Mechanics, I was looking for a college to learn more and more technical knowledge. I chose Rustomjee Academy for Global Careers, Thane where there were two options MSBVEE and Pearson BTEC level 5. I chose BTEC Level 5 in Electrical and Electronics engineering. BTEC is a vocational qualification which lets students gain skills and knowledge in Electrical and Electronics. These skills help me to practice in real-life scenarios. This programme has provided me with a great opportunity to work on team projects within the same domain. BTEC also provides an excellent career opportunity. The curriculum has been designed in such a way that it equips students with theoretical and practical skills. It also helps in building self-confidence and leadership skills.
Each college has its own admission process. Some colleges conduct an entrance exam, where some take an interview and some do both. In RAGC, there is no entrance test or exam. The management only asks a few questions about the applicants' achievements and experience in the industry. I was also parallelly trying for admission in VPM (Vidya Prasarak Mandal) polytechnic college in Thane. I also got selected there but I cancelled my admission because their curriculum focused more on theoretical concepts. So, I decided to take admission to RAGC college.
My college timings are 2-6 pm. I try to attend all the lectures I can and learn as much as possible in class. I like to attend IPES, IS, EEP, ECD classes because these are the subjects of my interests. Every year, our college organises a Nisarg event and focuses on three principles, Safety, Health, & Environment. This event is conducted for three days, as a part of which we clean beaches, organsie blood donation camps and many more social responsibility activities. There are also a lot of cultural events celebrated in college.
The curriculum has helped me
- Understand that there is more to life than marks and good grades
- overcome my fear of public speaking
- learn that respect matters more than fame
- and most importantly, that college is not all about only higher education but an experiential journey towards the achievement of goals.
This course has opened a lot of employment opportunities for me such as I can go for a career as a Electrical and Electronics Engineer, Electrical Installation Engineer, Manufacturing Supervisor, Jr. Engineer in Quality Control and Jr. Engineer in OEM electrical equipment.
