Creating history – girls secure 2 of Top 10 JEE ranks
Aditi Ladha from Ratlam (Madhya Pradesh) has done the unconventional rather than the unexpected. She hasn't just cracked JEE Advanced 2013 but stormed into the JEE Top 10 league with All India Rank 6. She leads the unprecedented success for girl aspirants in the history of IIT entrance exam, followed by Sibala from Tirupati, who has secured the eighth rank in the exam. It's the first time that two girls have made it among the top 10 JEE rankers. The much awaited JEE Advanced results were declared on June 21, 2013.
While Sibala could not be contacted, Aditi spoke about her JEE success and plans for the future in a chat with shiksha.com correspondent Madiha Jawed.
Q. How does it feel creating history as the first girl topper of JEE Advanced?
I am very happy, elated and content with my performance. While preparing I was sure to be amongst the Top 20 but had no expectations to secure the 6th rank.
Q. How long have you been preparing and what was your study plan for JEE advanced after you cracked JEE Mains?
I started preparing for JEE after class Xth and took coaching classes from Vibrant Academy, Kota. There, I opted for the regular classroom program.
As for my study plan is concerned, I was quite regular and constant with my studies and kept revising topics and subjects.
I scored 330/360 in JEE Mains.
Q. What’s your score in JEE Advanced and XIIth boards?
I scored 320 out of 360 in JEE Advanced, while in my Class XIIth I got 94.6%.
Q. Which IIT are you aiming at and which stream do you wish to pursue?
I am all set to go to IIT Bombay as according to me it’s the best – best in terms of academics, faculty etc. As for the stream, I will be opting for Computer Science.
Q. What is your take on the new JEE pattern?
A hardworking student will face no problems with the new pattern and I absolutely like this system introduced by the government.
Q. Which board are you from? Was there any difference between JEE Advanced and board syllabus?
I studied at Sapphire School, Ratlam which stands affiliated to CBSE. Being a student of the CBSE Board helped me a lot in preparing for JEE. This is so because, 80-90% of the syllabus for both CBSE and JEE is quite similar except some topics.
Thus, I did not face much difficulty in preparing for the exam.
Q. Which other exams have you taken?
Frankly speaking, besides JEE, I haven’t taken any other exam. However, I did appear for the Physics Olympiad where I was selected for the 3rd level.
Q. Can you tell us about your family background?
My mother is a housewife and my father is a graduate and a pharmacist running a medical agency. I have a younger sister who like me is preparing for JEE and lives in Kota, currently.
Q. Your father is in a medical field and you opted for engineering. What inspired you to go for engineering?
Nothing inspired me as such. It was all my own decision. I always wanted to become an engineer. I never thought about stepping into the medical field because I was never interested in Biology. My inclination is more towards Physics and Maths. Moreover, I never faced any pressure from my family and was allowed to choose any field I was interested in.
Q. What are your plans after you complete your B.Tech? Do you want to go for MBA or remain an engineer?
I haven’t really thought about it. I’ll think about it in the next 3 to 4 years and depending on how my liking develops I would choose accordingly.
Q. Any tips for aspirants who would be appearing for the exam next year?
- Constant hard-work
- Regular studies
- Do not take your studies for granted
- Do not ever go for last minute studies. If you’re thinking that studying two days before the exam will help, you are mistaken – It won’t ever.
- Give your 100% to anything that you are doing
