Extracurricular Activities in University Maharani College, Jaipur
Auditions, to be a part of the clubs, are held twice a year, once at the beginning of the session (July to August) and again before Veethika (January to February).
University Maharani College, Jaipur is known for its cultural and extracurricular activities, in not just Rajasthan but nationwide. Some might even say, worldwide since the students of University Maharani College, on various occasions, have represented India on global platforms and have performed in front of notable persons.
Cultural Societies and Clubs
Description of University Maharani College, Jaipur’s extracurricular activities can not begin without mentioning all the events organised by the college. There are nine clubs and societies currently active in the college, namely, Nartana (The Dance Society), Naad (The Music Society), Rangsheela (The Drama Society), Moda Aye (The Fashion Club), Cybernetics (IT Society), Tehreerr (Hindi Literature Association), Eclectics (The English Literature Association), Art Attackers (Fine Arts Society) and Oh Snap! (The Photography Club), completely run by the students themselves.
The major task of the societies is to help organise the annual cultural inter-college event of University Maharani College, Veethika, and to participate in inter-college events organised by other colleges.
However, these girls never step back from helping and volunteering for other events held on campus. Students from Hindi and English Literature Societies majorly anchor all the events organised by the college.
Auditions, to be a part of the clubs, are held twice a year, once at the beginning of the session (July to August) and again before Veethika (January to February). To become a member of a society, the student must have the skills required to pass the audition, for the respective society.
NCC: NCC or National Cadet Corps is a huge part of the campus culture of University Maharani College, Jaipur. NCC provides exposure to the students in terms of adventures, activities and physical training. To become an NCC cadet, students are required to fill out the form at the same time, while filling out a form for academics in the first year. If a student is eligible to study in the college, then the procedure of their selection into NCC starts. There’s an all-over physical test that the candidate has to pass to be a part of NCC. A number of camps are conducted throughout the session, for the cadets to develop their defensive skills. An addition of 5% in the final year examination percentage is provided to the cadets.
NSS: Another reason why University Maharani College, Jaipur is known to be an overall development centre for the students, is the National Service Scheme community and student politics/ politicians. NSS members are the main volunteers during the election season at the University of Rajasthan and other such events. The main motto of NSS is to develop the feeling of empathy in the students by helping and serving others and fighting for the rights of the people. A number of camps are held throughout the session where the members go all over the country and serve the ones in need. The members of NSS are given an additional percentage of 3% in the final examinations.
Sports: Sports are not just big but a fundamental part of the college, as some of these athletes have contributed to the overall reputation that the college possesses right now. Students are admitted under the sports quota but trials are also held afterwards, for students who wish to be a part of the sports teams. The most focused sports in University Maharani College, Jaipur are Kabaddi, Racing, Basket Ball, Cricket and Long Jump. All types of equipment and supplies required are provided by the college and the campus has a separate room, cricket pitch, basketball court, volleyball court and a stadium, where tournaments are held once a year.
Events
Veethika (Annual Fest): Veethika is the most talked about event of University Maharani College, Jaipur among the students, as it is the biggest event of the year, where students from different colleges participate in different performing, literary and fine arts competitions. Other than these, miscellaneous events such as Treasure hunt, Beg-Borrow-Steal, Shayari Competition and Antakshari are also organised. The event usually lasts for three days and famously known personalities such as popular authors, TV actors, Miss Rajasthan pageant holders and models can easily be spotted as chief guests or judges. The event perfectly showcases the enthusiasm and zeal of the students of University Maharani College and helps them develop the spirit of teamwork.
Ananta (Fresher’s party): Ananta is organised at the beginning of every session to give fresher students a warm welcome into the college. Fresher students can participate and showcase their skills. Multiple pageants are given to the winning students including Ms Fresher.
Mayuri (Farewell party): Giving a warm goodbye is just as important as a warm welcome. Keeping this in mind University Maharani College, over the years, has kept the tradition of organising Mayuri as their Farewell Event. Mayuri includes multiple game sessions and pageants. More such events, including Women’s day celebration, Investiture Ceremony (for the heads of the cultural societies) on Basant Panchami and Self Defense camps, are conducted in the college, from time to time.
