GNVS Institute of Management has brought about an impactful change in me, says Divya Nair
During the conflictive transformative stage between secondary and higher secondary, I realised my keen interest in Chemistry and Biology which encouraged me to opt for Science by paving the way to delve deeper into the above subjects. To continue chasing my dreams, I joined BSc in Biotechnology from Pillai College of Arts, Science and Commerce in Panvel, Mumbai. Soon, after completing my graduation, I started working at Thyrocare Technologies Limited as a Senior Marketing Executive. That was my first job.
After some time, I visualised myself in a canvas where my studies could be applied to benefit for a better cause either as an entrepreneur or as an employee which demands management skills, leadership that could be acquired only through a management degree. I spoke about this with my family and my father suggested me GNVS Institute of Management. I visited the campus, spoke to a few people and eventually my interest developed in the college.
I started preparing for MAH CET exam on my own. The exam has 200 multiple-choice questions divided into five sections-Logical Reasoning, Abstract Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude, Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension. Every question has five options to choose from. I didn’t find the need to join any preparatory classes. I was able to secure 83 per cent in the exam which created a gateway for me for admission in Master of Management Studies at GNVS Institute of Management.
The curriculum here is very interesting. With day-long lectures, regular guest lectures facilitated by industry leaders from varied backgrounds, indoor & outdoor games, and many other co-curricular activities. We have no time to feel bored. Out of all the subjects, I like Business Research Management, Marketing Management, Grooming and Communications, Indian Ethos the most. I also actively participate in organising and managing various events organised at campus level. I feel this is a great opportunity to showcase leadership and team management skills. I like to take up new challenges coming my way as they help me realise my potential. I have participated in Business Plan competition, Tarang and Marketing fest and I am also a part of Cultural society, Alumni group, and Branding & Media Society.
I am witnessing an impactful change in me. Grooming has developed me to build my self-confidence and is enabling me to come out of my comfort zone and be sure of myself. It has also helped me overcome my fear of speaking in public and has empowered me in many more ways.
I am identifying my competencies and also getting a taste of where I need to improve and I am sure, along with acquiring skill sets I will be able to work on my weaknesses and will come up as a professional person.
I see a lot of opportunities coming my way such as:
- Building a network in the corporate world through the seminars and forum meets that the institute is organising frequently. I tend to follow these guests on Linked In as they share a lot of meaningful thoughts.
- Exposure and placement in a well recognised and reputed organisation through Internships and campus drive respectively.
Apart from the above, I believe opportunities are endless as the saying goes “Sky is not the limit when there are footprints even on the moon.”
