Gujarat Technical University (GTU) on May 27, 2020, issued guidelines for conducting summer examination 2020 starting June 25. The University will conduct terminal exams for diploma and undergraduate students of the final semester as well as for second and fourth-semester postgraduate students.
This year, more than 1.2 lakh students from diploma engineering, diploma pharmacy, degree engineering, degree pharmacy, architecture, MBA, MCA, ME and M Pharm are expected to take the exam. The University is expected to release a detailed schedule of the exams soon on its official website. Under GTU, there are more than 550 affiliated colleges and more than 5.5 lakh students are enrolled in them. The decision by the state's largest varsity comes on the heels of the Gujarat government's recent notification regarding college-level exams to begin from June 25. The duration of the exam will remain two hours. While addressing the media, GTIJ, Vice-chancellor, Naveen Sheth said, "We have declared the exam start dates for various courses so students can be well prepared.” According to the guidelines, revised paper style applicable only for Summer- 2020 examination will be displayed on GTU website. As suggested by the recent notice released by the state government, progression will be implemented for the intermediate semester in undergraduate, diploma courses, Merit-Based.

All the educational institutions including colleges and varsities in Gujarat were shut due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus followed by the countrywide lockdown imposed to contain the virus spread. As a result, most of the college-level exams could not be conducted. However, the exams will be conducted as per the guidelines laid down by the state government. According to the sources, the strict guidelines for conducting exams include wearing masks, social distancing and proper sanitization measures. Each exam room will have a maximum of 15 candidates. Persons not wearing masks should not be allowed to enter the exam center. External theory examination will be conducted for all regular/remedial semesters of PG courses. The source also revealed that the institute will submit the practical marks of the students to the University only if practical examinations are already conducted. Else, the varsity will follow the Merit-Based Progression. Viva exams will be conducted by the institute's endorsed faculty using online video conferencing.
