IBSAT (ICFAI Business Studies Aptitude Test) commenced on Monday, December 16, 2013. The exam will continue till January 7. According to reports from various students and coaching institutes, the test went smoothly, without any glitches, on Day 1. And as expected, IBSAT 2013 was on the easier side. However, there was a little difference in the breakup of questions. Here’s a look at the latest pattern of this two-hour test.

Verbal Ability

The verbal ability section consisted of questions related to synonyms, antonyms, sentence completion, fill in the blanks, and grammar (syntax and error correction). The grammar section was quite easy.

Reading Comprehension

There were four passages in this section. The length of each passage was around 400 words. The breakup of questions was 8-8-9-5. Most of the questions were fact-based, though there were some vocabulary-based questions, and inference-based questions.

Quantitative Ability

The quantitative techniques consisted of basic Basic problem – analytical geometry, arithmetic and Geometry. Questions included ratio proportion, speed, distance & time, heights, work problems, probability, progressions, percentages, and etc.

Data Interpretation & Data Sufficiency

This section was heavy with logical thinking and data sufficiency. It included bar graphs, line graphs, and circle graphs. Other questions had ratio between two values, percentage change etc.

Overall Outlook

Though the students and coaching centres reported change in the breakup of total number of questions – 30 in each section – an official from IBSAT, Mohit Pawar, mentioned that there has been no change in paper pattern. Sharing the general feedback from their student surveys conducted post-test, IBS admission officer G Prabha said, “Few aspirants were of the opinion that the paper was tough, Math section was complex. Although English and DI/Quant were tolerable.” She added, “The exam was hassle free, no technical glitches faced.”

Overall, a decent attempt would be at least 90 questions out of 120.
