This year, IIT JEE organisers introduced several new practices to ensure transparency in IIT JEE results, which have been declared today - on May 18, 2012. No marks have been given for two questions that were found to be incorrect in the question paper this year. These questions were worth seven marks. In case of two other questions that had two correct answers each, marks were granted for both the options. More about this

For the first time, the candidates who appeared for IIT JEE on April 8 this year, received a copy of their OMR answer sheets. The answer keys were published online on May 1 and the evaluated answer scripts of students were also uploaded online on May 5. Student had to request for revisions, in case of any technical glitches, till May 10.

Less than 100 applications for revaluations were received and scores of less than ten candidates had to be recalculated. This shows the efficacy of the transparency solutions IITs have come up with. Read more

Colleges accepting All India Ranks in IIT JEE 2012 for admission

All the IITs – including IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras, IIT Roorkee, IIT Bhubaneswar, IIT Gandinagar, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Indore, IIT Mandi, IIT Patna, IIT Rajasthan and IIT Ropar will accept All India Ranks in IIT JEE 2012 as admission criteria to their undergraduate engineering programmes.

IT-BHU that has just joined the league of IITs will also accept IIT JEE scores and ranks. ISM Dhanbad is another institute that accepts students on the basis of their IIT JEE ranks.

Other engineering colleges and their programmes that will accept IIT JEE 2012 ranks for admission are:

Institute Name Course Name
Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology, Rae Bareli B. Tech in Petroleum Engineering (40 seats)
  B. Tech in Chemical Engineering (35 seats)
Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER) 5-year integrated Master of Science (MS) programme
Indian Maritime University
T.S. Chanakya, Navi Mumbai, Mumbai campus 3-year B.Sc.(Nautical Science)
Marine Engineering & Research Institute, Kolkata, Kolkata campus 4-year B.Tech (Marine Engineering)
National Maritime Academy, Chennai, Chennai campus 4-year B.Tech (Marine Engineering)
Marine Engineering and Research Institute, Mumbai, Mumbai campus 3-year B.Sc. (Maritime Science)
Visakhapatnam campus 4-year B.Tech. (Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering)

For those who crack IIT JEE 2012

Congratulations! Those who crack IIT JEE 2012 will be assigned an All India Rank based on their aggregate marks in the exam.

Only those students who score at least 10% marks in each subject and at least 35% marks in aggregate will be included in the IIT JEE merit list 2012.

IIT JEE Rank lists for reserved categories

  • Separate merit lists will be prepared for OBC (NCL), SC and ST categories. OBC (NCL) category candidates will have to score a minimum of 9% in each subject and 31.5% in aggregate to be included in the OBC rank list. SC and ST category candidates will have to score at least 5% in each subject and 17.5% in aggregate to be included in their corresponding rank lists.

  • For Physically Disabled (PD) candidates, separate rank lists will be drawn for General, OBC (NCL), SC and ST categories. PD students will also need to score at least 5% in each subject and 17.5% in aggregate to be included in the PD rank lists.

  • In case, the number of candidates in SC, ST, and PD rank lists is less than 1.4 times the number of seats reserved for these categories, candidates who score at least 2.5% in each subject and 8.75% in aggregate will be called for preparatory courses, according to a rank list prepared for this purpose.

In case of a tie, students with higher subject-wise average marks will be awarded higher rank.

With lowering of cut-off scores to 35%, it is expected that more than 25,000 students will make it to the admission eligibility list of the premier institutes, which is almost double the number in 2011. Consequently, up to two candidates will be vying for each seat in the general category while three candidates will be vying for each reserved category seat at the counselling level. Only students who will pay up the initial admission fee (Rs 40,000 for general category students and Rs 20,000 for OBCs) will be eligible for counselling. Students who do not get admission in the course of their choice will either have to forfeit the admission fee or opt for the course that is offered to them. IITs do not offer refund in such cases.
