Eyeing management institutes in Maharashtra? MAH-MBA (Masters in Business Administration) and Masters of Management Studies (MMS)-CET have been the common entrance exams for admissions to management institutes in the state. And the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Mumbai, will conduct CET for the coming academic session 2014-15.

Earlier this year, AICTE had instructed private colleges to admit students on the basis of CMAT scores. However, the Supreme Court overruled it, highlighting AICTE’s role as limited to being an ‘advisory and recommendatory body’

According to a notice on the website by Subhash Mahajan, director, DTE, 85% seats in the government-run and aided MBA/MMS institutes in the state and 65% seats at private unaided and minority institutes will be filled through the 'MAH-MBA/MMS-CET' from 2014. For 2013-14 session, all admissions to MBA and MMS were done on the basis of Common Management Aptitude Test (CMAT) scores conducted by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The exam will most probably be conducted in February 2014. For more details, please visit the official MBA 2013 website of The DTE.

The DTE also scrapped all Group Discussions (GD) and Personal Interviews (PI) for admission to MBA programmes. Despite that, this year, out of 45,747 MBA seats in Maharashtra, only 12,321 seats could be filled. In fact, 37 B-schools converted around 1921 minority seats into general seats to procure more admissions. Read more here.
