Mahindra Ecole Centrale launches a specialized Automotive Systems and Internal Combustion Engines Laboratory
Hyderabad-based MEC - Mahindra Ecole Centrale announced the establishment of a Specialised Automotive Systems & Internal Combustion Engine (AIC) Laboratory at its campus. The purpose of this laboratory is to introduce graduate students to the working process of various cars and their power train, the IC Engine.
MEC emphasises more on the practical approach of learning and hence offers students with an atmosphere to learn and undertake research in relevant areas. The AIC laboratory is well equipped to let engineering students immerse themselves in the latest equipment & technologies and come up with innovative solutions to current day issues. MEC also plans to initiate live R&D projects in collaboration with leading auto industries in coming future.
This facility will have the entire range of automotive and IC engine related equipment from a ready-to-drive vehicle to its various sub-systems and components. Cutting parts of the entire drive train from the engine to the transmission and axles (including the differential) would allow visualization of the various sub-systems and their internal components and equipment. These cut-sections are also motored to present the drive-train in operation. A vehicle inspection pit is under planning stage.
Another focus of this lab is performance testing of IC engines. Separate equipment is available for functional multi-cylinder Spark Ignition (SI) and Compression Ignition (CI) engines, with dynamometer. Each of these engines will have its own test bed in a separate anechoic chamber that ensures safety and sound-proofing. These test beds allows one to study engine performance in the form of torque and power curves, emissions and specific fuel consumption.
MEC is also planning installation of a single cylinder, variable compression ratio, multi-fuel engine that not just be used to study the performance of liquid and gaseous fuels but also the bio-fuel blends.
The lab will have high-end equipment that would include Ready-to-drive 25 tonnes HCV, 6 tonnes LCV chassis and engine aggregates, Aggregates such as Power Train (Chassis, Engine, Transmission, Axles, Tyres) with cut sections (and motorized for demo). Others include brakes, cooling system, steering, after treatment systems etc., with cut sections, 4 or 6 cylinder SI (gasoline) and CI (Diesel) engines with dynamometer, single cylinder multi-fuel variable compression ratio research engine and fuel Characterization and emissions measurement facilities.
About Mahindra Ecole Centrale:
Mahindra Ecole Centrale (MEC) College of engineering is an international technology school, that marks the entry of the USD 20.7 billion Mahindra Group into the higher education sector. In 2014, Mahindra Educational Institutions, the wholly-owned subsidiary of the IT company of the Mahindra Group, Tech Mahindra, partnered with Ecole Centrale Paris and Tech Mahindra Technology Park to set up MEC in Hyderabad. The Ecole Centrale Paris (recently renamed CentraleSupélec) is one of France's oldest and most prestigious engineering institutions with a heritage that goes back nearly 200 years.
