Q: What are the salient features of the teaching methodology adopted by your college? How does this differ from others?
A: MET Institute of International Studies adopts a Student-Centered teaching methodology. At MET IIS the students and teachers both play an active role in the learning process. The curriculum is designed to suit inquiry and project-based learning, where students undertake pre-designed private study projects; discuss the results and learning in the class with the faculty through presentation as well as roleplay methods. Group exercises stimulate inquiry-based learning. Traditional lecture-based pedagogy is used to clarify the construct while assignments and tutorial exercises help the student to understand the practical application of theory.
Q: How are you preparing your students to be Industry ready?
A: MET IIS course curriculum is designed by NCC Education, a UK awarding body of British qualifications. The course units are prepared to comply with the National Occupational Standards of UK ensuring that the students studying the course are job/ industry-ready. Additionally, the students are encouraged to undertake primary and secondary research cases to gather relevant industry data. Industrial visits, company open day sessions add to the student’s knowledge about the industry. Students engage with industry experts during ‘Industry–Academia Interaction Series’ through webinars and seminars.
Q: What are the qualities you are looking for in student applicants? What qualities do they need to do well in your course?
A: We would like to see student applicants who are open to experiencing new methods of learning. Rather than historical educational data, we look at English language communication skills and smartness in applying cognitive approaches to deal with learning issues in applicants.
The students, to achieve an exemplary rank in the course need to present their work in excellent written and spoken word. The students need to be knowledge-hungry and should put in extra efforts to address their course rigour as they compete with students across the globe.
Q: How do you ensure that your course curriculum is up to date and meets industry requirements?
A: The curriculum for all the units for all courses of MET IIS are designed by NCC Education, UK. All the units are registered with Ofqual (The Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation which regulates qualifications, examinations and examinations in England) thereby ensuring regular updates to the units as demanded by the NOS (National Occupational Standards)/ Industry.
Q: Is your college receptive to innovation, technology, science & entrepreneurship? How? Could you cite some examples of these?
A: Today, technology is the cornerstone in delivering and disseminating knowledge to the students. MET IIS has invested in Learning Management System from Eduworld for classroom lectures and Google classroom for online sessions. The lectures are recorded, curated and accessed by students when in need. The library also offers an online search and reserve option for students. The entire admission process is online with a three-tier assessment system.
