MBA-IB programme offered a wonderful basket of courses with an option to chose from what I wanted to study, says Marut

I topped Kumaun University in the Arts domain and wanted to make a good career for myself. That was the time I had first heard of Amity University in Nainital which is my hometown. A couple of college mates were joining the prestigious International Business program at that time. They had a lot of stories to tell about how great this institution was. Often, I would hear them say we have an HR Summit next month or we are now working for the Corporate Meet in various committees.

I always had a thirst for learning and wanted to learn everything I came across but honestly speaking I was very confused in classes 11 and 12 as to which stream, I should go for. Ultimately succumbing to my scientific temper of experimenting and observing, I chose Science with Biology for classes 11 and 12. Later I decided to go for a Bachelor’s in Arts in English Literature, History and Hindustani Vocals music as I wanted to learn everything. Then they would go on speaking about the state of art infrastructure of Amity which is at par with global standards. This really excited me and to top it all they would boast about some of the greatest opportunities which only Amity alone provides to Indian students, such as the three Continent and Study Abroad Programme or the Mega International Research and Business Conferences such as INBUSH, etc.

An MBA was the talk of the town at that time and that too from a brand like Amity. I thought this could be the best chance to learn the tenets of Business Administration which would best compliment my creative side. Further, communication along with my science background would give the foundation of logic to every enterprise I would undertake in the future.

Amity has always been a dear choice of people who possess the talent and need a great platform. So, I firmly decided to embark upon my journey at Amity as a postgraduate student in one of India’s top-ranked International Business Schools was determined to do an MBA from Amity in International Business as other colleges were not providing a dual major in specialisation. Although I did not go for coaching at all because I feel one can achieve anything on one’s own will. All we need is a focused effort and disciplined regime.

On the other hand, I had given my MAT exam and I couldn’t score the minimum marks in it due to unforeseen situations. I immediately started preparing for the Amity Admissions test. The typical preparation included studying General Knowledge, Mathematics, Reasoning, English and all subjects up to class 12.

Shortly I applied for Amity Common Admission Test and scored well. I was then called for a Group Discussion and Personal Interview. I thoroughly prepared for it and faced the interview board with confidence.

I was admitted in the MBA IB programme. My exhilaration knew no bounds. Rest is history.

Amity was the best thing that happened to me! I was from a small town in Uttarakhand and had never experienced the life of a student in Delhi NCR. Firstly, I learned to be on my own, learned to make new friends and connections. It imparted me skills such as time management, managing self and working hard.

Amity offered me an all-around development. The programme offered a wonderful basket of courses with an option to chose from what I wanted to study. Additionally, I was offered a Foreign Business Language, Behavioural Science and Business Communication. All the Professors who taught me were big names in the corporate arena with exceptional knowledge & wisdom.

Our time at college was most meaningfully spent. We had classes, guest lectures, industry interaction. On many occasions, we would visit companies for event planning and implementation. We gave a presentation to CEOs as part of hands-on learning. Writing a proposal for strategic business alliances was also taught by Amity Faculty. Every event at the AIBS was student-driven and mentored by able faculty guides.

We also had to write a summer internship report and a dissertation as part of our curriculum. All these brought about immense rigor in our academic skills and report writing abilities. We also had an exposure to Sangathan which was a two-month long sport meet on account of Founder’s Day. Sports made us team players and disciplined go-getters.

I liked almost all the classes and activities at Amity, but Brand Management and Consumer Behaviour classes were my favourite as they ignited both my scientific and creative aspects of personality. I partook in almost all college events and competitions such as literary, cultural and industry events.

Amity has made a significant change in my life and career. I was lucky to have travelled so many countries in a short span of time. Through Amity I got to meet and network with some of top brains and who’s who of many a nation, to name a few Dean of Harvard Business School and Cornell Business School, Celebrities from Music and Film industry. CEO of leading global brands; etc.
