Student-run societies & clubs at GNVS Institute of Management help enhance our skills, says Chinmayi Bhardwaj

I am a BCom graduate from HR College of Commerce and Economics, Mumbai. During my second year, I had interned with Thomas Cook India for the profile of Business Development and Foreign Exchange Management. In addition to this, I am also an Advance Diploma holder in Tourism and Travel Management. I was a part of one of the flagship programmes of HR College, known as the Honors Program.

In 2018, I got a job at Ernst and Young LLP through campus placement. It is one of the Big Four accounting firms in the world. I worked at E&Y for around a year in the Risk Advisory-Internal Audit for Consumer goods and retail Industry. I felt the need for further studies to grow ahead in my career. So, I joined the Master of Management Studies (MMS) at GNVS Institute of Management, Mumbai. My core specialisation is Finance.

I have always visualised myself as a successful female entrepreneur coming up with new and innovative ideas. This thought has motivated me to learn how to manage a business, with respect to the VUCA environment. This was the sole reason behind opting for the commerce stream in Class 11 and 12. The next step was to gain industry exposure and complement it with the learning of MBA. That is when I decided to appear for CET. The purpose was to secure a seat at one of the Mumbai University affiliated colleges. As the scores were declared, I bagged a seat at GNVS Institute of Management. It deemed fit as per my list of parameters that an institute should possess. And that is how I got admission to GNVS Institute of Management. I did not choose to undergo any preparatory sessions for the CET exam. The admission process was easy and smooth. Basis cut off in CET exams, admission is granted to the student.

The institute has a  great infrastructure that includes library, outdoor and indoor games. There are a lot of student-run societies and clubs. The institute invites prominent dignitaries at regular intervals for guest lectures. They share their experiences, challenges and success stories. The lectures that I like to attend include Financial Management, Marketing Management, Operations Research and German. I also actively participate in various finance and economics forum events such as writing research papers, participating in business plans and many more.

The institute has groomed me into a better person. I feel confident and have learned multi-tasking. Now, I am a more detail-oriented person which helps in the execution of tasks in a more effective way.

I aim to secure a good position in the finance domain, work for about seven years before I can start my entrepreneurial journey.

Himachal Pradesh-based Chinmayi Bhardwaj is pursuing Master of Management Studies at GNVS Institute of Managemnet, Mumbai. She is fond of table tennis, poetry, sketching, painting and dancing. Apart from Hindi and English, she is also proficient in German and Punjabi language. She has been the president of Nature Club at HR College of Commerce and Economics and has also been a part of various initiatives such as Times of India Clean-Up Drive and Plantation Drive.
