Now, 'one nation, one test' for all disciplines?
Even as JEE 2013 is still dealing with uncertainty, the Union human resource development minister Kapil Sibal reminds us of the original plan – having a single test for all the disciplines. According to Sibal, the resolution of having a single test for all the disciplines has been passed by the Prime Minister’s council.
In an interview with The Tribune, HRD minister Kapil Sibal stated that the government will set up a new committee to look at the modalities of the 'one nation one test' idea and recommend how to implement it in a phased manner across disciplines. Representatives of IIT Council and IIT faculty will be part of this committee, which will be headed by Dr CNR Rao - Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Council. Know more
Sabil also claims that the one-test formula proposed by him proved to be a failure because of IITs’ interference. However, the new panel will plan to develop a single test that will not only encompass admission to the engineering colleges but to all undergraduate level courses across the country. The single engineering test has already been accepted by all the central institutes, except IITs. All the deemed universities have also accepted it. AICTE has also asked all the technical colleges affiliated to it to join the new test. Some of the state governments have also supported the new JEE. See details
