My name is Akshamya Gedam and I’m currently a 27-year-old pursuing PG in Health Management from IIHMR and currently living in Delhi. I started my journey at IIHMR in 2020 and in this article, I would be telling you about my educational journey so far which includes my schooling, graduation and post-graduation experience.

I am from the village–Talodi, Taluka–Nagbhid, District-Chandrapur. I completed my schooling from Nagbhid district only.  To become a Doctor is really my love, passion and life. So, after the Class 12 exams, I was preparing for PMT. I appeared for PMT exam in 2012 in which I scored well but my score was not eligible for MBBS. So I decided to go for BAMS. I applied for admission at Vidarbha Ayurveda College, Amaravati in 2012 and got through with it. It is one of the reputed semi-government Ayurvedic colleges in Maharashtra which was founded in the year 1931. I started the new journey of my life with some struggle and enjoyment also. Surviving in a new college, a new city with homesickness was quite difficult for me at that time. After a few days and months, I was stable in the new environment. The faculty was really supportive. This UG programme contributed a lot in enhancing my domain knowledge. I graduated in 2017 as BAMS doctor.

As soon as I graduated, I had multiple job opportunities but I didn’t want to pursue any of them. Rather, I wanted to intern with some of the renowned medical facilities and further, I wanted to go for post-graduation and hence I decided to prepare myself for PGDHM programme. To secure admission in this programme, one has to go through C-MAT exam. I appeared for the exam and was able to clear it with a decent score. I was eligible for admission at IIHMR Jaipur and International Institute of Health Management Research - IIHMR, Delhi.

I applied at both campuses, but I first got the interview call from the Delhi campus. I was able to clear the interview rounds and this is how I secured my admission at one of the best institutes across the country.

PGDHM 1ST Year journey: In 1st year, the combination of academic and social struggles made institute life difficult to adjust to at the first, but institute faculty and student support are incredibly helpful. It took me some time to adjust to institute life but I must say it wasn’t so difficult with all the support and home-like environment at the campus.

PGDHM 2ND Year Journey: Now I’m in my second year. This year has a lot more changes in terms of both academic and social lifestyle. With the first year full of foundational knowledge, this year is comparatively more about practical exposure and growth.

IIHMR Delhi has every possible thing to offer to students that could help them achieve their goals whether it is the latest technology equipped labs, sports facility for a healthy mind and body, well experienced faculty members, library with all possible resources, etc. The campus offers you an unforgettable experience. This institute is a Brand-new experience in terms of socially, academically and mentally that takes time to adjust to and can be difficult and challenging yet fun and learning.
