The pressure to get that dream internship can be intense, but perseverance is the key to sustain oneself, says Debashis

The pressure to get that coveted dream internship can be intense, but perseverance is the key to sustain oneself. I always wanted to bag the role of Sales and Marketing Intern in a leading FMCG firm. The first day of internship was jam-packed with companies and ITC was the first one for which I interviewed.

Success demands trading lofty comfort zone pleasures with diligent effort. As a firm believer of this ideology, I have been a very driven and proactive person throughout my life and have believed in the power of hard work coupled with a generous dose of persistence in creating wonders.

The pressure to get that coveted dream internship can be intense, but perseverance is the key to sustain oneself. I always wanted to bag the role of Sales and Marketing Intern in a leading FMCG firm. The first day of internship was jam-packed with companies and ITC was the first one for which I interviewed.

My project involves enhancing our rural sales by penetrating the market using alternate sales channels. This assignment was both challenging as well as interesting because I had to create a new channel of sales without the help of traditional/ regular manpower. My prime focus was to find such markets in rural areas where we are not giving service directly (secondary sales), analyze the market potential & nominate them in the list of the to-be service markets.

A:

The KIIT School of Management offers various courses such as BBA MBA, and Ph.D. The KIIT College has a good placement record. The College has ample internship opportunities for the students and also provides in-campus placement to their students. The Placement rate of the college lies between 80-82%. Q:   Is KIIT School of Management, Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology good for placements?
A:

KIIT School of Management is a good college but to be honest, there is no placement for BBA. There are other courses like - Engineeering where placement scenerio is good but they also get a median package of 3-4 lpa. But the quality of education is very good.  For MBAs, there are placements, but not for BBAs. And also, everyone here belongs to rich families, so none of them are interested in placements.

Few top recruiters this year were - HP, Delloite, HDFC bank, IBM, TCS, Infosys etc.

Second part of this assignment was to find such SHGs (self-help groups) of that location who are having such members who are willing to try their luck in Direct selling, enroll them as our channel partners, train them the basics of like product knowledge, pricing & sales techniques. This assignment helped us to reach our untapped consumers directly, as they were not having exposure to our brands.

It was a surreal moment for me when I got a PPO offer from ITC. The internship taught me two important things. First, there are times when you would have to work on many things at the same time, then it becomes very important to get your priorities right and stay focused. Second, the quality of your recommendation lies in the quality of questions you ask. So, work a lot on the questions you are asking from the stakeholders of your project.
