In a conversation with Shiksha.com, Centre Head of INIFD Andheri Professor Mamta talks at length about their detailed and well-defined syllabus. She goes into detail talking about industry readiness as one of the most crucial skill and how to acquire that.

Mamta is the Centre Head of INIFD-Andheri. She has acquired a Post Graduate Diploma in Dietetics. Irrespective of her educational background, she has always had an eye for fashion and understands the growing demands of this industry as she comes from a family of garment exporters.

Q: What are the three things that your institute is doing that will enable it to differentiate itself from competition?

A: INIFD Andheri has a detailed and well-defined syllabus along with experienced faculties with personalised attention to students.  Our Faculties come from design backgrounds and their experience combined with our well-versed curriculum helps the students to get a practical understanding.

Q: What are the top three initiatives undertaken by you that are helping your students become more industry ready?

A: Industry readiness is that crucial skill that can not be acquired if the curriculum is confined to four walls. To help students become industry ready –

1. We ensure that the curriculum is regularly visited and updated
2. Interaction with renowned designers such as Manish Malhotra, Abu Jani, Ashley Rebello, etc. to provide industry exposure.
3. Masterclasses and interaction sessions with international faculties and designers

Q: What are the key attributes that a student should have in order to qualify for your institution and perform well?

A: To qualify for the institution, one must fulfill the eligibility criteria i.e., passed class 12. The applicant must be creative and passionate to learn. To perform well, one must be dedicated and consistent in academics.

Q: Which programme/s would you say is/are your best? What is it that helps your institution differentiate itself for this programme?

A: Our super-premium courses have been specially curated for students keeping in mind all the requirements to today's fashion/interior design industry, so that once the student graduates he/she is industry-ready.

Q: What are you doing to improve/drive better campus placements for your current students and alumni? What kind of jobs routinely come to campus? What would you say are the key recruitment trends for your college (observed over the past five years)?

A: To drive campus placements better, we organise –

• Interaction with designers so that the students are aware of what an employer is looking for in a design student
• Internships during the course of study so that students work and gain experience with designers and organisations like Pernia Pop up, Purple Style Labs, Tommy Hilfiger, Vera Moda, Manish Malhotra designs, Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla

Recruitment at Designers, Export Houses, Retail Houses, Accessory Designer, Boutiques, Architects, Interior Designers, Kitchen Outlets, Lighting Vendors

Recruiters want the students to know and be well trained in all aspects including social media & Cad.
