Choose a career based on your abilities: Rittika Ghosh
For a student, trying to decide the right college and course can become confusing and difficult at times. When I was in school, like many others, I too was very confused about the same.
As a child, initially I wanted to become a teacher, and then wished to become a doctor – these are the common aspirations of all children belonging to that age group. However, as we grow up, we realise the hard-work that needs to be put in to get a professional degree, and end up choosing a career based on our abilities.
When I was in class 9 my school started showing us films related to different career fields such as Medicine, Business Management, Journalism, Hotel Management, Engineering, Architecture and Law etc. Since then I was very fascinated with the idea of having my own business. For me, having a business of my own meant earning a lot of money, but my elders warned me that running a business involves a lot of risk. However, since I was extremely confident of establishing my own business, I did not lose hope.
As I always used to argue with my parents, they felt opting for Law would be the right career option for me. I was interested in criminal law, but a lot of people advised me not to for the same, and that option was ruled out.
Time was passing by quickly, and choosing the right career had become a serious affair. Our school used to conduct career fairs wherein different colleges’ from India and abroad would come and enlighten us about the course they offered and what criteria was required to get into specific courses.
When I was in standard 11, I shortlisted some colleges’, but I wasn’t very sure on which one would I be joining. Next year, when I reached standard 12th, once again numerous colleges participated in the career fair, and that is where I got to know about O.P. Jindal Global University.
On knowing more about the courses, I realised that Management was of interest to me, and the same would help me fulfill my ambition of establishing my own business. Considering these aspects, I decided to opt for BBA (Bachelor of Business Administration).
Jindal Global Business School was established in 2010, and had a good reputation. The programs offered by the Jindal Global Business School are MBA (Master of Business Administration), BBA (Bachelor of Business Administration). Also, they offer an integrated program, BBA-MBA (A 5 year integrated course) and BCom (Bachelor of Commerce).
I made an early decision and applied to Jindal for BBA in 2016 before my boards. I appeared for JSAT exam (Jindal Scholastic Aptitude Test). I got through, and my semester begun in August 2017. It has been three months since then and I have enjoyed every bit of learning till now. Our classes are fun and exciting. There is something new to learn every time in class. I like all subjects but my favorite subject is Management Thoughts and Functions.
I have seen myself grow in these three months, in academics as well as personally. There has been a vast change in me. I was very shy and quiet in school, but after coming to Jindal I gained confidence in myself. The environment in Jindal is friendly and comfortable. My class is very supportive and helpful. There is unity in our class and everyone is very friendly.
We have a brilliant faculty that makes our learning experience memorable and amazing. Presentations, group projects and group assignments take place from time to time – this involves team work which helps us mingle with children of other backgrounds and culture. The seniors here are very helpful and understanding. I am having an amazing time in Jindal.
