‘Not prepared for offline exams’, say CBSE Class 9, 11 students
CBSE students of classes 9th and 11th are not in favour of offline examinations and cite rising COVID19 cases and being prepared for the online tests after a year of online classes.
Students of CBSE 10th and CBSE 12th have got clarity over the CBSE board examinations 2021 with the announcement of examination dates and that the examinations will be conducted offline. However, students of Class 9 and 11 students are still unsure about their final examinations. These students are majorly asking for online examinations citing rising COVID19 cases and being prepared for the online tests after a year of online classes.
In the previous year, the majority of schools had conducted the final exams for Classes 9 and 11 by the month of February or early March before the beginning of CBSE board exams. This year, as the schools have been unable to complete their syllabus due to disruption in the classes during the lockdown, many students are asking for a reduction in the exam syllabus. They are worried due to COVID19 related health risks during the offline exams.
Few students have suggested that Classes 9 and 11 exams must be held in both - online and offline mode – and students should get the option to select the mode of examination.
According to a news report, some students of Classes 9 and 11 say that it is risky to give offline exams. “Sir please understand the situation of classes 9 and 11. We don't want any offline exams. It's totally risky to go to school and take exams. Please take it online. Many are not happy with online classes but we’re managing.”
Few states have announced dates for final examinations of Class 9 and 11. Goa will be holding final exams for both the classes from April 24, Bihar will hold Class 9 exams from March 4, and Class 11 exams from May 10. Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh will conduct exams in April. West Bengal has decided to promote students of Classes 6 to 9 without exams and reduced the state board exam syllabus for Classes 10 and 12 by 30 percent.
