Shiksha.com conducted a survey asking if the Class 12th exams 2021 be scrapped amid the ongoing pandemic. As we might have guessed, majority of participants voted for cancellation of the Intermediate exams 2021 citing health and safety concerns.

With India reeling under the second wave of coronavirus, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided to cancel the Class 10th exams and postpone the Class 12th exams to a later date. The new date sheet for Class 12 examinations will be announced in June after assessing the pandemic situation.

Following CBSE, CISCE and many other state boards have also decided to postpone the Class 12 exams 2021 leaving students in a fix. Many students and parents demand cancellation of the offline intermediate board exams citing risks associated with moving out of homes. In this regard, hashtag #cancelboardexams2021 has gone viral on social media.

As on April 20, 2021 the number of positive cases in the country are 15,321,089 and increasing rapidly on a daily basis.

Shiksha.com conducted an online survey inviting stakeholders in the education industry to share their views on the topic ‘Should Class 12th Board Exams be scrapped for the academic year 20-21? If yes, how do we assess the current class 12th students? If no, what is the safest way of conducting these exams? When should we conduct them given the raging pandemic?’

Within a few hours of posting the question, hundreds of replies were received wherein a majority of people demanded the cancellation of Class 12 examinations and a general promotion based on internal assessments.

Himanshi from Mathura said, “No, exams should not be cancelled, we have done our preparation throughout the year and want board exams to be conducted. Because of some students who did not prepare for their exams, we should not suffer.” A person with the user name Free Fire commented, “They must be conducted because those who did not study properly would also gain advantage by not giving exams. So, exams must be conducted either online or in the offline mode after the pandemic gets over.” Another user Grey from Mumbai said, “If the exams aren't conducted, even though it may feel good right now, but it will only bring hindrances in our future career options.
