Bihar National College: A Heritage

Placements: Being a student of Political Science Honors, one can pursue careers in civil services, law, political firms, lecturer roles, NGOs, and social work. The chances of placements are low because it is a traditional course, and there is also no chance for internships.

Infrastructure: It is a traditional course with classes available, and faculties are present every day in the department. There is Wi-Fi across the whole campus. The infrastructure is average, with a canteen, tennis court, basketball court, and badminton court, along with a library and common room for both boys and girls. We have hostel facilities for both girls and boys, but without a mess. There is a lack of access to electricity, safe drinking water, and sanitation facilities.

Faculty: The faculty has good knowledge of the subject, and the teaching quality is good. Exams are held annually, and one has to pay an exam fee of 700 to 750 INR. The passing percentage for exams is an aggregate of 45% in total. We have two honors papers in the 1st and 2nd years, and after the 2nd year, we have eight honors papers along with GK and GS, which is a passing paper. In the 1st and 2nd years, we have two subsidiary papers, which are also passing papers, along with a composition of 50 marks each; English and Hindi are passing papers too.

Other: I was a student of Political Science Honors. We read about politics and political institutions in society. One can pursue careers in civil services, law, and other political institutions, firms, and social work in NGOs. The course should offer some apprenticeships to improve job opportunities. One can also pursue this course through the Bihar student credit card.

It is one of the good colleges in Bihar to study in both arts and science streams.

Placements: Placement in political science is low because it's a subject of politics, so generally students of this subject have scope in their state or country's politics. Many students are now in state and country politics, like Lalu Prasad Yadav, ex-chief Minister of Bihar.

Infrastructure: There are facilities available for everything that students need. Wi-Fi, labs, a library, and many more are there. There is also the facility of a hostel where students stay. There are medical facilities, a canteen, and playgrounds for games like cricket, basketball, etc. Indoor games facilities are also there.

Faculty: Teachers are very helpful, qualified, and knowledgeable. They are good at teaching. Students can understand teachers easily because they teach in both languages, Hindi and English. Semester exams in this college are not very difficult, and the pass percentage is 33%.

Other: I was a student of B.A. honours in political science from 2014 to 2017. I wish the improvement would be in cleanliness because there was a lot of dirt. The courses are good, and there is no need to improve or change them. There should be fests or events every year to entertain, among many other useful things for students.

I am dissatisfied with the infrastructure, and I did not felt like I was in college.

Placements: There were no placements under this course. So I cannot speak about the salary package and the companies. Roles are not offered to the students. There is only the scope of higher education under this subject and choosing this paper in civil examinations. None of the students from our course got an internship.

Infrastructure: The infrastructure of our college was not so excellent as it is the oldest university. The renovation was in progress during my course tenure. The hostel was occupied voluntarily even after the completion of the tenure. The mess was not available in our college. There was no playground for sports activities. The library is available here.

Faculty: Teachers in our college were knowledgeable, and they provide inputs as and when required. Their teaching quality was perfect. The course curriculum does not make the students industry-ready. Our course subjects engage students in debate processes, understand the political theory and the working of the government.

Other: I have chosen humanities in 12th standard, so I have decided to do my graduation in this subject.

Absolutely love my college life and miss those highly qualified professor.

Placements: More than 75% of students were placed, and the remaining opted for higher studies. Students got 80% internship offers from various companies. It was the most prestigious college of Patna with an impeccable academic record. Most of the student of this college was IAS professor.

Infrastructure: Our college provided digital attendance, hi-tech library, practical room, canteen, medical facilities, big playground, Wi-Fi enabled classroom, and projector. There was an auditorium for cultural and academic celebration and convocation. There was a specific quota for games, and outstanding game equipment was available.

Faculty: Teachers were highly qualified, well-known with an experience of more than 20 years. Method of teaching was quite unique. They believed in practical knowledge rather than bookish knowledge. Exams were conducted regularly and well-maintained in a proper way. The difficulty level was moderate to hard.
