MBBS - Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery - Batch of 2026
2.2
Review of Dr. Somervell Memorial CSI Medical College and Hospital.
Placements: The college is a medical college, so there is no concept of placement. Some people who complete their MBBS course from here prefer to give NEET PG or transfer to the Middle East for good opportunities. Kerala itself has low employment if you are just an MBBS student. No companies are coming for placement. Students have to do a permanent 1-year internship where they help and learn more about the practical knowledge of a doctor.
Infrastructure: Classrooms are quite big. It's an old college established in 2002, so the classrooms are like those of a government college. A smart board is there for lectures, with no Wi-Fi facility available in class. The library is quite big, and all the skill labs and subject labs are properly maintained. The quality of the hostel is bad. There is no choice, you must take triple occupancy as there is not enough space, especially in the girls' hostel. There is no canteen in the hostel, and the mess of the college is the worst; the food is not even good, hygienic, and they charge too much for it.
Faculty: As this is a medical college, you will feel the stress, assignments, and exam pressure from faculty members. Teachers are knowledgeable and have good teaching quality. The course is curriculum-relevant and makes the students ready for real-life challenges. Semester exams are tough to pass. In fact, Kerala University of Health Sciences is among the toughest universities to pass. The pass percentage is generally above 80%. Teachers help you a lot.
Other: I chose this course to become a doctor and be socially well-recognized. People look up to you. The stress should have been less in my course, that is one thing I want to change. There are no events or fests, a high campus crowd, and calm surroundings. Welcome to the Jail and Concentration Camps. You cannot leave the hostel without loads of permission signs.

Review of Dr. Somervell Memorial CSI Medical College and Hospital.
Placements: The college does not provide any placement, but it does provide internship opportunities. There is a 1-year compulsory rotation internship that is required to be given to the students by the college in their own hospital, and we are paid for the same too.
Infrastructure: This college is mostly inclined academically, and here most of the faculty are highly qualified and experienced and always ready to help you out. its all about your interest and dedication, which you need to take in with the faculty, and they are happy to help you out. Hostel life is bad. The mess food is the worst, and the administration mostly does not do anything about it. No matter the amount of complaining you do, it still remains the same. You have to adjust to it. We do have a gym in the hostel, which could be used by the student, but the facilities are below par, and there is a lack of necessary equipment.
Faculty: Talking about the faculty, they are highly trained, qualified, and experienced professors who are keen to teach you. They are ready to help you with your doubts and curiosity. The curriculum followed is laid out by NMC itself, so it makes us ready to deal with real-life situations, and a good hands-on experience is made available in the college. Talking about their exams, they are on par with what the KUHS (university) holds at the end of the year. At first, most of the students fail, but they start passing once they get a grasp of the subject and syllabus.
Other: The college life is not that great, like if you are planning to take admission, you can, but remember that it's academically inclined, so you won't have many fests or events. There is no college nightlife, like the gate timing of the college is 7pm, post that no one is allowed to go outside of the hostel.

Review of Dr. Somervell Memorial CSI Medical College and Hospital.
Placements: Around 150 students are accepted here every year based on Neet UG rank & eligibility. We follow the CBME curriculum, which is more clinical-based than before. There is a one-year compulsory rotation or internship following 4.5 years study. Approx. 10,000 is paid for internship.
Infrastructure: All the basic facilities and amenities are available in the college for studies. We have separate building for each subject in the first 2 years, and we have have separate building for attending lectures. A 24-hour functioning restaurant is present within the campus. The library is open every day till 10 p.m., except Sunday.
Faculty: We have one of the best faculties in the medical college. They are all well versed & experienced doctors in their respective fields. The professors are helping & friendly & help solve doubts. The exam difficulty level is moderate. The exams are conducted almost every month.
Other: MBBS is one of the most sought-after courses in India. Becoming a doctor is a dream of many young minds. It teaches the importance of service, hardwork and dedication.

I am satisfied up to a certain extent.
Placements: There are no placements in the MBBS course. You have to apply for a job in the private or government sector. You can get a job as a junior doctor in any private or government hospital. You can also open your own private clinic. You can also serve in the army; there is a separate exam for that.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is average, but our college is well-equipped with all the equipment required for practical knowledge. Every lab every year is well-equipped. The hospital is also well-equipped with all the equipment. The hostel is also average, and the food is not up to par for North Indian students or vegetarian students.
Faculty: Faculty members or professors are well-trained and experienced. All the faculty members are fully knowledgeable and very helpful. Regular exams by our college are organized at regular intervals, and the checking is rigorous for that. Teachers teach on a projector as well as on the board.
Other: Connectivity is good. Extracurricular activities are organized at regular intervals. Fests are also organized.

Satisfied only to a certain extent.
Placements: There are no placements in the MBBS course; you have to search for a job after completing your degree or study further for PG to get better job options. You can get a job in government and private hospitals after MBBS and also open your own clinic. Additionally, you can get a chance to serve in the army.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of our college is average. Classrooms are air-conditioned and equipped with boards and projectors. The college is well-equipped with all necessary equipment for practical labs. Every lab is well-equipped. The library has all the books related to medical studies and also features an e-library. However, the hostel food is not suitable for North Indian vegetarian students.
Faculty: Teachers are well-qualified and helpful. All faculties are knowledgeable and helpful, leaving no deficiency in their teaching. They give their best to ensure everyone passes. Internal exams are conducted regularly, with a strict checking process and a 50% passing percentage.
Other: Fests are organized on various occasions, along with sports and cultural events. Connectivity is good, with everything available near the campus.

Our college is good in all aspects.
Placements: The placement cell is not available in our college. The MBBS is a self-dependent course, and students can get any job in any government or private hospital or any sector of medicine like the Pharmaceuticals Research field and technology.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of our college is not good. Wi-Fi is not available in classrooms and the library. The library is good, and all books and latest magazines are available for research and the medical field. The food served in the canteen is good.
Faculty: All teachers are very helpful, qualified, and knowledgeable. Their teaching quality is very good. The course curriculum makes students industry-ready. Semester exams are not much difficult. Students should prepare well for exams. The pass percentage is 90%.

I am satisfied with this college.
Placements: There is no placement cell in this college. After doing this course, we get a job in a government hospital or a private hospital, or we can apply for other governmental sectors other than hospitals like biomedicals and medicine fields.
Infrastructure: Our college infrastructure is not good. Wi-Fi facility is not available in classrooms, laboratory, and library. The food served in the mess is not upto the mark.
Faculty: Faculty members are very good. It is in the top five institutes in Kerala. Teachers are very helpful and well-qualified. They are always ready to help students. We can ask doubts freely at any time and anywhere.

Satisfied in terms of faculty and infrastructure .
Placements: As MBBS is a professional course, it needs the skills to be developed during entire course of MBBS of five and half years. The average salary of a MBBS graduate as a fresher is forty thousand (40,000) per month in a private hospital which increases with your experience and performance.
Infrastructure: Facilities and the infrastructure are at par the level. Wi-Fi is not available, classrooms have no signal at all. Labs and library are good with all facilities. Rooms are spacious and large with double rooms. Medical facilities are free for the students studying here. Sports and games are regular .
Faculty: In the whole Kerala state this college Dr. Somervell Medical CSI College and Hospital, Karakonam, Thiruvananthapuram comes in top 5 colleges in academics. Teaching faculty is very good, helpful, knowledgeable and very cooperative. Semester exams are a little difficult as its a professional course.
