NEET or National Eligibility cum Entrance Test is a paper-and-pencil-based test (PBT) of three hours or 180 minutes duration. There will be a total of 180 multiple-choice questions (MCQs), all of which will be compulsory to attempt. The syllabus of the exam consists of Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects. The Biology subject is segregated between Zoology and Botany. On the other hand, the Chemistry subject is segregated into Organic, Inorganic and Physical Chemistry. Unlike last year, the subjects will not be divided into two sections.
According to the marking scheme, each correct question carries 4 marks, and there is a negative marking of 1 mark for each wrong answer. No marks will be awarded or deducted for unattempted questions. The following table brings the structure of the NEET exam.
| Sections | Number of Questions | Total Marks |
|---|---|---|
| Physics Section | 45 | 180 |
| Chemistry Section | 45 | 180 |
| Botany Section | 45 | 180 |
| Zoology Section | 45 | 180 |
As such no section is easy in NEET PG syllabus. Some candidates may find clinical section easy while others may perceive para clinical as difficult. In reality, all the three sections clinical pre and para clinical are equally difficult and candidates have to devote good amount of time to prepare in and out of every subjects. It must be noted, a good number of questions are clinical based, so this section holds huge importance.
Some topics of pre and para clinical are utmost important as lots of questions are from them. Point is candidates should prepare all three sections in such manner so that 90 percent questions can be answered easily. Last year, clinical section was difficult in comparision to other two sections.
No, NEET is not mandatory for most Perfusion Technology courses in India. Admissions are generally based on merit in Class 12 PCB subjects or through institute-level entrance exams.
However, some top private or deemed universities may consider entrance scores like CUET, CET, or their tests. It's best to check individual college requirements before applying.

Perfusion Technology Course FAQs
Candidates can refer below for Perfusion Technology Course FAQs.
Cardiovascular perfusionis the Science of providing extracorporeal circulation in order to artificially support and temporarily replace a patient's respiratory and circulatory systems. Clinical Perfusionists are expert members of the cardiac surgical team, and provide life savingsupport of patients requiring extra corporeal circulation, including but not limited to majorcardiothoracic, vascular and transplant surgeries, as well as support of the critically-ill patient.
Cardiovascular Perfusionists are important members of the open-heart surgical team whoseprimary role is to conduct cardiopulmonary bypass using a heart-lung machine and otherancillary equipment. They closely monitor the patient's blood flow and other vital signs duringopen heart surgery and are also responsible for administering intravenous fluids, bloodproducts and anesthetic drugs. Colleges that provide this course are Amrita institute of Medical Science St John's Medical College etc. This is a relatively new course and hence there is less demand for this course in India right now, but it has sufficient scope outside the country
No, a perfusionist is not a medical doctor (MD or DO).
A perfusionist is a healthcare professional who specializes in the operation of the heart-lung machine, also known as the cardiopulmonary bypass machine, during surgical procedures. Their primary role is to maintain the patient's blood circulation and oxygenation when the patient's heart is temporarily stopped during surgeries like open-heart surgery, cardiac bypass surgery, or organ transplant procedures.
While perfusionists are vital members of the surgical team and play a critical role in maintaining a patient's physiological stability during surgery, they do not hold medical degrees and are not authorized to diagnose medical conditions or perform medical procedures outside their specialized role in perfusion technology.
Yes, Perfusion Technology can be a demanding and stressful job, primarily due to the critical nature of the role and the high-stakes surgical procedures perfusionists are involved in.
Life-Saving Procedures: Perfusionists are responsible for operating the heart-lung machine during surgeries like open-heart surgery and organ transplants. These procedures can be life-saving, and any errors or complications during surgery can have serious consequences. The high level of responsibility can lead to stress.
High-Stress Environments: Operating rooms (ORs) are high-pressure environments. Surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other members of the surgical team rely on perfusionists to maintain the patient's vital functions, which can be challenging and stressful.
Long Hours: Surgical procedures can be lengthy, and perfusionists may need to work long and irregular hours. This can lead to physical and mental fatigue, contributing to stress.
Perfusionists typically do not use stethoscopes during the actual procedure or while operating the heart-lung machine. Their role is more technical and involves monitoring and adjusting various parameters of the machine, such as blood flow rates, oxygen levels, and temperature, to ensure the patient's physiological parameters remain stable. They may also be responsible for administering medications and blood products as needed.
However, before and after the procedure, during patient assessments and consultations, perfusionists might use stethoscopes to listen to the patient's heart and lung sounds, just like other healthcare professionals, to assess the patient's condition and gather information about their cardiovascular and respiratory status.
No, a perfusionist is not a nurse.
A perfusionist is a specialised healthcare professional who is trained to operate the heart-lung machine during cardiac surgery and other medical procedures. The primary responsibility of a perfusionist is to manage the patient's cardiopulmonary (heart and lung) function while the surgeon performs procedures on the heart or other organs.
On the other hand, a nurse is a healthcare professional who provides general patient care and support. Nurses may work in various healthcare settings, including hospitals, clinics, and long-term care facilities.
After completing a degree in Perfusion Technology in India, individuals have several options to further their education or enhance their skills in related fields.
Some of the courses and avenues that one can consider include:
Master's in Perfusion Technology
Postgraduate Diploma in Hospital Management
MBA in Healthcare Management
Clinical Research courses
A perfusionist operates the heart-lung machine during cardiac surgeries. They maintain blood circulation and oxygenation while the heart is temporarily stopped.
They closely monitor blood flow, gases, temperature, and medications to keep the patient stable. Their role is critical in open-heart surgeries, where even minor missteps can risk the patient's life.
Yes, perfusion technologists play a vital role in heart and lung transplant surgeries, especially during extracorporeal circulation and organ preservation.
Their expertise in maintaining blood flow and oxygenation during these procedures helps ensure successful outcomes. They are often part of specialised transplant teams in advanced hospitals and surgical centers.
Fresh graduates with a BSc in Perfusion Technology typically earn around INR 2.5–4.5 LPA, depending on the hospital, location, and clinical exposure.
With experience and specialization, salaries can go much higher. Top private hospitals, cardiac care centers, and transplant units often offer better packages and growth opportunities.
Yes, Perfusion Technology offers strong prospects in India due to rising cardiac surgeries and advancements in critical care.
With increasing demand for skilled perfusionists in hospitals and transplant centers, job stability and growth are promising. Opportunities for higher studies, international placements, and specialisation also enhance career scope.
