Hindustan Institute of Maritime Training (HIMT Chennai) is a private institute,  located in Kilpauk, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. It has four campuses in Kilpauk,  Tidel Park,  Kalpakkam, and Vizag. Established in 1998,  HIMT is the only Institute in India to offer the maximum courses (90+) approved by the DG of Shipping. The institute is affiliated with the Indian Maritime University. HIMT Chennai is approved by the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) and the Ministry of Shipping (Government of India) with a sanctioned intake of 60 students for each course.

Hindustan Institute of Maritime Training, Chennai is not too much costly .The campus and infrastructure is well built. The courses fees is around INR 4 Lacs to INR 13 lakh including the mess and hostel. If you get scholarship the tuition fees will be less and you can there easily with INR 3 lakh to INR 10 lakh. The admissions at HIMT College (Hindustan Institute of Maritime Training) is based on the candidate's performance in the entrance exam. There is an entrance exam known as IMUCET (Indian Maritime University Common Entrance Test) which the candidates need to give.  The IMU CET entrance exam is conducted in CBT (Computer Based Test) mode annually. Depending upon the performance of the candidate, it allows the students to take admission in the all 6 campuses of IMU (Indian Maritime University).

Candidates who want to take admission in HIMT College (Hindustan Institute of Maritime Training) need to appear for the IMU-CET entrance exam which is conducted at the university level. There is no fixed cut off for IMU-CET exam. Only after the results of IMU-CET entrance exam are out and can be checked on the college website. But for taking admission in HIMT College, the candidate needs to clear psychometric test, medical xxamination which is followed by the Interview and pre-sea training. After clearing all these stages, the candidate can then take admission in HIMT college.

All students who has passeed IMUCET exam and scored 60% aggregate in Class 12 are eligible for admission in B Sc. at HIMT College (Hindustan Institute of Maritime Training) and age limit at the time of coarse commencement should be 17- 25 years.

Hindustan Institute of Maritime Training, Chennai offers BTech and BSc programmes at the UG level. HIMT Chennai admission to the UG courses is determined by candidates' ranks in IMUCET, while for other programs, HIMT administers an entrance examination. Successful candidates in the respective exams proceed to an interview and medical examination for final selection.  IMU-CET (Indian Maritime University Common Entrance Test) entrance exam scores are accepted by HIMT College (Hindustan Institute of Maritime Training) for admission. It is a national-level common entrance test for admission to various courses offered at IMU campuses conducted by Indian Maritime University. The candidates who clear the entrance exam are called for their psychometric test, medical examination followed by panel interview and pre-sea training. • the highest salary placement in VIT Chennai is 75 LPA and the highest salary placement in HIMT College is 4 LPA. 
• VIT has 2 coarses for B Sc. and HIMT has only one i.e Nautical Science.
• Total fees in VIT for B Sc. is 2.40 Lacs whereas in HIMT is 9.75 Lacs i.e VIT is cheaper.
• NAAC Accreditation for VIT is 'A+' and there is no NAAC Accreditation for HIMT.
