For admission to HIMT Group of Institutions, candidates need to fill the application form online or in offline mode. The step-wise admission process of HIMT is given below: 

Step 1: For registration, candidates need to submit the entrance exam score for the respective test they have appeared for admission to different courses. The entrance exam scorecards have to be submitted at the time of registration.

Hindustan Institute of Maritime Training (HIMT Chennai) is a private institute,  located in Kilpauk, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. It has four campuses in Kilpauk,  Tidel Park,  Kalpakkam, and Vizag. Established in 1998,  HIMT is the only Institute in India to offer the maximum courses (90+) approved by the DG of Shipping. The institute is affiliated with the Indian Maritime University. HIMT Chennai is approved by the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) and the Ministry of Shipping (Government of India) with a sanctioned intake of 60 students for each course.

Candidates who wants to take admission to B Tech in HIMT College first needs to appear in the IMU- CET (Indian Maritime University Common Entrance Test) .  It is a national-level common entrance test for admission to B Tech and various coarses at IMU campuses conducted by Indian Maritime University. According to 2023, thoses students who have scored 150 out of 200 in this exam are called for their psychometric test, medical examination followed by panel interview and pre-sea training. Only after clearing all these stages, the candidate is eligible to take admission in HIMT college.

According to 2023, cut off for opening ranks in general was 179 and cut off for closing ranks in general was 150. In 2022, the overall cut off for IMU-CET was 5- 1349 rank. 

Candidates applying for the BSc programme in Nautical Science at HIMT College must have completed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and English as compulsory subjects, with a minimum aggregate of 60% in PCM. Additionally, they should have a minimum 50% aggregate in English at both Class 10 and Class 12 levels. The age limit varies, with diploma/degree holders being between 17.5 to 27 years and others being 25 years at the time of course commencement.

In my opinion, VIT Chennai is better than HIMT college because

• the highest salary placement in VIT Chennai is 75 LPA and the highest salary placement in HIMT College is 4 LPA. 
• VIT has 2 coarses for B Sc. and HIMT has only one i.e Nautical Science.
• Total fees in VIT for B Sc. is 2.40 Lacs whereas in HIMT is 9.75 Lacs i.e VIT is cheaper.
• NAAC Accreditation for VIT is 'A+' and there is no NAAC Accreditation for HIMT.

The eligibility criteria for admission to BTech in Marine Engineering at HIMT College include completion of Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and English as compulsory subjects with a minimum aggregate of 60% in PCM. Additionally, candidates should have a minimum 50% aggregate in English at both Class 10 and Class 12 levels. The age limit for admission is 17 to 25 years at the time of course commencement.

All students who has passeed IMUCET exam and scored 60% aggregate in Class 12 are eligible for admission in B Sc. at HIMT College (Hindustan Institute of Maritime Training) and age limit at the time of coarse commencement should be 17- 25 years.

The highest CTC package offered at HIMT College was approximately INR 13 lpa. The placement drive for 2023 batch has been concluded at HIMT College, Chennai.
