HIMT Chennai offers nearly 15 types of scholarships to make education accessible to students from all economic strata. Some of the Hindustan Institute of Maritime Training scholarships are explained in a brief below:
- Merit-Cum-Means based Scholarships in the memory of Late Smt Madhurika Suresh Vakil
Every year, several scholarships are awarded to students from the low-income group who record meritorious academic performance continuously and demonstrate economic needs. Madhurika Educational and Charitable trust has instituted three such scholarships for GP Rating students with the objective to provide financial support to them. Each student pursuing the GP Rating course is granted an amount of Rs 25,000.
- Scholarship for Indian Armed Forces
The Institute offers 50% waiver on tuition fees to the students whose parent has been martyred while in the service of Indian Armed Forces (Army/ Navy/ Airforce).
- Female Candidate Scholarship
A waiver of INR 25,000 on tuition fee is available for all female candidates across all courses.
- Scholarship for Lakshadweep Native Candidates
HIMT has taken an initiative to be a part of the skill development mission for Lakshadweep administration. Candidates with a proof of their nativity from Lakshadweep can pursue GP Rating course for INR 1,35,000.
Total tuition fees forvarious courses at HIMT College are:
B.Tech in Marine Engineering-13 Lakh
B.Tech. in Marine Engineering (Lateral Entry)- 9 Lakh
Certificate in General Purpose (GP) Rating- 1.9 Lakh
Basic STCW Safety Training Course (BST)- 14.9 Thousand
Certificate in Electro Technical Officers (ETO)- 2.5 Lakh
The total fee for BTech courses at HIMT Chennai includes several components, such as tuition fee, hostel fee, admission fee, academic fee, etc. The course fees can be paid semester-wise from the second year. Placements: In my batch, 33% of students are placed. Companies such as PIL, BSM, and WAH KWANG visited. Many more companies are expected to come for future placements. The packages offered to cadets depend on the companies, but the salaries are as per the standard market. Overall, HMIT provides the best learning experience for future growth.
Placements: A good number of students got placement opportunities through campus recruitment and campus interviews. The placement support is helpful, especially for students looking to start their career at sea. The salary package is not confirmed yet but depends upon the vessel and the company.
Placements: Top recruiting companies are MOL, BSM, M.Sc. SYNERGY, BW, and many more. The course offers a role as an engine cadet. For B.Tech, salary starts from 900 USD per month and goes up to 18000 USD per month. Every year, HIMT gives 100 percent of placements to shipping companies.
Placements: I, Ebin Joshy from GP 97, feel very proud to say that I am placed in MOLMI Shipping Company through HIMT College. Placement training given by our college is the reason for my placement. The placement assistance is done by our captains and chief Engineers and course in-charges to train the cadets on both the deck and engine side. Placements: A total of 19 students from my course are placed in Mitsui Osk. Many companies are coming to college, like M.Sc. Maersk VR, Maritime Mol, and Synergy. The top roles offered to students are deck cadets, engine trainee, deck trainee, trainee os and Viper.
Placements: Placement in HIMT is good, given the hardships and training, one can easily manage to get selected in prestigious companies coming for selection. Decent package as per the company policy. Many companies in the maritime industry as M.Sc. Maersk, Synergy, Nautilus, Sunav, PIL, MOL, and many more.

The eligibility requirements and admission process of both IMU Kolkata and HIMT Chennai are almost the same. The basic requirement that candidates must fulfil is that applicants must complete their Class 12 from the PCM stream with an aggregate of 60% and a minimum of 50% marks in English in Class 1

Hindustan Institute of Maritime Training, Chennai is not too much costly .The campus and infrastructure is well built. The courses fees is around INR 4 Lacs to INR 13 lakh including the mess and hostel. If you get scholarship the tuition fees will be less and you can there easily with INR 3 lakh to INR 10 lakh.
