you should give CAT entrance exam and should secure above 97 percentile only then there are chances of getting admission in IIMA

That is not true. However if you graduation percentage in engineering is 78 or 75, you are seriously disadvantaged and would need to do really well in CAT to compensate for that.

To be on the safer side, you should aim for higher percentile 99.99. Please note that the cutoffs change every year and it is impossible to guess the cutoff. Hence put in your best foot forward.

To get into MBA course you will need to appear for the entrance exam. You can appear for it this year and then apply to different colleges. Unfortunately there is no other way to get into business schools in India(atleast for a fresher).

It should totally depend on you. IIMs or any other business school do not impose a condition on type of course. The only requirement is that you should have completed your bachelor's degree with minimum 60% marks.
