UGC NET 2026 Important Dates
Candidates can check below the UGC NET important dates.
There is no upper age limit to apply for the Assistant Professor positions. But for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), the maximum age limit is 30 years as of June 1 of the exam year. There is also an ahe relaxation provided to the candidates from reserved categories including OBC, SC and ST
Candidates can submit their UGC NET application form in an online. No other method is there to fill the form. Without it, candidates will not be able to sit in the examination.
The NTA UGC NET exam consists of two papers and candidates need to complete it in a duration of three hours. Candidates can check below the exam pattern for both papers.

Challenges That Candidates Faces While Submitting the Application Form
Every year, some of the candidates face challenges while filling or submitting the application form. Some of the challenges that candidates may face are mentioned below and can check it accordingly:
OTP problem: It also happens that after providing the personal details, candidates don't get the OTP and automated registration number.
Uploading Photograph & Signature: At times candidates faces problems while uploading their photographs and signatures after several attempts.
Multiple Payments: Candidates also face sometimes problem while making payments for the application form.
Automatic Change in the Application Form After Submission: The particulars filled in by the candidates are automatically changed after the submission of the application form.
Solutions for the Challenges
Candidates can also check the solutions for the challenges that are faced while submitting the application form:
Speed of the internet: It is advised to the candidates that they should use fast internet or shall wait for a few days to fill out the application form because lakhs of candidates fill the application form at once and so server crash problem occurred. This is very common problem that most of the candidates faces.
Change in Application Particulars: Candidates should check the application form thoroughly before submitting it. If by mistake something mwntioned wrong or left then candidate need to wait for the application correction window to make corrections.
Photograph & Signature: Candidates should check the dimensions and the size of the photograph and signature before uploading it because the platform accepts the photograph and signature in a given range of sizes and formats. If the size and format are correct, then the candidates are advised to wait for some time, as it will be a server error due to the slow speed of the Internet or a server crash due to high traffic.
Multiple Payment: Candidates are also advised to make several payments for the application form. After making the payment, the candidate should keep the receipt of the payment and wait for 72 hours. If the payment status is not successful within the time limit, then mail the problem to the UGC NET help desk, explaining the problem in brief, and attach the payment receipt from your bank in the mail.

It is crucial for the candidates to check their UGC NET eligibility criteria 2026 to appear for the exam. Those candidates who will not fulfill the eligibility criteria for the exam will not be able to sit in the exam. Nationality
Nationality plays an important role as an eligibility criterion exam because only Indian citizens can take part in the exam. Citizens from other countries can not apply for the exam. Also, candidates who are residing in other countries but are citizens of India can apply for the exam. It is important to prove Indian citizenship for the candidates who are residing in other countries with proper documentation.

Educational criteria
Candidates who possess a master's degree can apply for the exam. Scroll down for complete educational qualification details:
Candidates should have completed their post-graduation from a UGC-recognised college/university. Minimum marks for General Category is 55% and for reserved categories including SC/ST/OBC/PwD is 50% marks.
A relaxation of five per cent in educational qualification is given to reserved category candidates
Candidates who have cleared the State Eligibility Test (SET) before June 1, 2003, are exempted from taking the exam

Age Limit As Of 1/06/2026
In the exam, there is no upper age limit to appear for the professorship exam, whereas for the post of JRF (Junior Research Fellowship), the candidates must be below or equal to 30 years of age. Also, the candidate must fulfill the other criteria as well to appear for the exam. The details of the age limit criteria are provided below:
- Candidates should not be more than 30 years of age to be eligible for UGC NET JRF as of June 1, 2026
- There is no age restriction to applying for the post of Assistant Professor
- A relaxation of five years in age criteria is given to reserved category candidates
UGC NET 2026 Reservation Policy
As per the Government of India rule, the reservation policy is applicable to the UGC NET exam. According to this only, the seats are reserved in the central universities and institutes that are deemed to be universities. The reservation of seats is provided below:

UGC NET 2026 Exam Pattern
The exam consists of two papers: Paper 1 and Paper 2. The exam duration is three hours. Both papers consists of objective-type multiple-choice questions (MCQs). UGC NET 2026 Syllabus
The University Grant Commission prescribed the syllabus of the UGC NET exam. It is divided into Paper 1 and Paper 2. Paper 1 is a general paper that is the same or equivalent for all the candidates who are preparing for the exam. It consists of the questions from the quantitative, research, teaching aptitude, and more. On the other hand Paper 2 is subject-specific, it comprises questions from the subject that was chosen by the candidates while submitting the application form. The June session exam will be conducted for 85 subjects.

Paper 1 comprises 50 questions from 10 units, and total marks are 100, or Paper 1 holds a weightage of 100 marks.

The NTA will conduct the UGC NET June session exam at several centres across the country. After the conduction of an exam, we will provide the exam analysis based on the feedback received from the candidates which will consists of the overall difficulty level of an exam, topics asked in the exam and more.

UGC NET 2026 Answer Key
The authority will first release the UGC NET 2026 provisional answer key after few days of the conduction of an exam. It will be released along with the question paper with recorded responses. The authority also invites objections against the provisional answer key if the candidates find discrepancies in the answer key. After the scrutiny by the expert panel of the objections, the final answer key and result will be released.
