IIT Patna provides Merit-cum-Means Scholarship to meritorious and needy students. The scholarship is offered to students based on their merit and annual family income. The flagship course of IIT Patna is BTech. The four year BTech programme is offered in 11 specialisations. Admission to all BTech courses is subject to a valid score in JEE Main and JEE Advanced exams. Students also need to go through the counselling process conducted by JoSAA for final seat allotment. The eligibility criteria for admission is that students must have cleared their HSC/10+2 with minimum 75% aggregate. The total seat intake is 638.
IIT Patna offers BTech, MTech, MSc, and PhD programmes through its 10 departments. IIT Patna offers four-year BTech programmes at the undergraduate level in 11 specialisations. A two-year MTech programme in 15 specialisations and two-year MSc programmes in three specialisations at the postgraduate level. All 10 departments of IIT Patna also offer a three-year PhD programme. The mode of IIT Patna admission is online. Admission to BTech is based on JEE Main and JEE Advanced scores, followed by JoSSA counseling. Admission to MTech and MSc is subject to GATE and IIT JAM, respectively.
The official JAM 2025 Round 1 admission data released by IIT Patna indicates a strong demand for the MSc in Chemistry programme among General category applicants. Over the past three years, the cutoff rank has moved from 446 in 2023 to 419 in 2025. These figures clearly show that students aiming for Chemistry at IIT Patna need to secure a rank well under 400. Moreover, if we talk about other courses, the cutoff remain competitive. So, getting a rank of 560 in IIT JAM is not at all enough to secure any course under General AI quota. IIT Patna cutoff 2025 for MSc courses stood between 419 and 454 for the General AI category candidates. However, if any candidate belongs to any reserved category then there are higher chances to get a course at IIT Patna at 560 rank.
IIT Patna accepts CUET score for the BSc programme. To get admission to the BSc programme at IIT Patna the aspiring candidates need to have a minimum of 60% in class 12. They also need National/State Level Entrance (i.e., JEE (Advanced/Main), NEET, CUET, BITSAT, KVPY/NTSE/INSPIRE scholarship holders, State Entrance Examinations).

No, the GATE registrations for IIT Patna 2026 MSc admissions are no longer open. The GATE registrations were closed in the month of November 2025. The GATE is scheduled to take place in the month of February 2026. Candidates who failed to register for the GATE are required to wait for the GATE 2027
