Forensic Scientists work in the lab setting analyzing evidence and have a hard science background or criminalistics. Forensic Investigators, sometimes called CSI or crime scene investigators, collect evidence at the scene document everything and sometimes reconstruct the scene. 

Some requirements for the same are mentioned below -

• A bachelor's degree
• An advanced degree – some jobs, such as psychiatrist, anthropologist or pathologist, require advanced degrees and
• specialized training.
• Good note-taking and observation skills – take laboratory courses.
• The ability to write an understandable scientific report.
• The ability to be unbiased.
• Intellectual curiosity.
• Personal integrity.

Common roles and responsibilities of a Forensic scientist involve the following

• Reconstructing the crime scene. 
• Examining hair, glass, blood & drugs samples by DNA profiling, chromatography & mass spectrometry
• Providing scientific evidence for the court.
• Research & Development.
• Recovering data from electronic devices.
• Writing Reports.

Note: Specific line of work differs across the area one is dealing with. 

Colleges in India generally accept both of these streams for admission in forensic Science courses. Each stream has its advantage. For instance, biology shall help making foundation in study of biological evidence like DNA, serology, toxicology, etc. and a background in maths can make data-heavy subjects and digital forensics easier. Some students also take PCMB for a broader scope in forensic science.
